Title: IGT S+ ram clear help
Post by: pacman1974 on March 13, 2010, 04:30:46 PM
I bought a ram clear/ set denom set for my igt S+ machines a while back. I installed the ram clear on one of my triple diamond deluxe and it wouldnt work like the instructions said. Next I tried it in another TDD which was previously working and now it doesnt. I now simply get a 61 error when I turn it on and the machine is dead. I have tried the ram clear a hundred times and still it doesnt work. Does anyone have the ram clear binary file so I can compare to make sure this is the right clear chip for a triple diamond deluxe? It comes up with a checksum of 6710, 27C256 eprom. Can anyone verify this?
I would really like to get this going again as I have a buyer as soon as I can get it back in working condition.

When you put in the clear chip and press the white test button does it do the count down?

If so, when you put back the game chip and get the 61-0 turn the key for a 61-1 and close the door.

The ram clear chip should be a 27C512 chip as it replaces the game chip. I think this is your problem.

Same pinout, as long as the data fits it should work.
But according to any instructions I have found it should be a 256.

Clear 123 is burned to a 256 chip. If you use a 512 chip copy it again to address 8000

Yes, I did use a 256 eprom. I ran the ram clear and it worked fine. I got both of my triple diamonds back up and running now but still need to do the set denom. Im getting ready to check the eprom because it didnt do anything when I installed it.

If your MPU has a jumper next to the chip socket and
you were previously using 256k sized chips, you need to move
the jumper to the other side for your 512k chips - otherwise it won't boot up.
When you finish, move it back to 256k position when you reinstall the SP chip.

My own experience is those jumpers do not need to be changed when using a set or clear chip.
They are for the number of virtual stops in the reel chips.

I didn't know that...this requires some investigation!  :209-

I have never moved them because I did not know what they were for  :103- :103-. Don't touch  :60- :60-! Used all size chips with no problem...don't create one !! :60- :60-

I now simply get a 61 error when I turn it on and the machine is dead. I have tried the ram clear a hundred times and still it doesnt work.

For the RAM clear on a S+ once you put your CLR chip in place of the base game chip in socket U-52 (make sure notch is at proper end), turn the machine back on and push the small white button next to the power switch, machine will count from 1- ??? then again 2- ???...when the counting stops shut off and reinstall the base chip and when you power up you will get a 61-0 error...push the little white button again (hold it untill you hear a ding) and now you should have a 61-1 on the display. close the door and reset using the jackpot reset key on the right side of machine...wait for the reels to cycle and you should be good...however at this point I sometimes get a 65-1 error in which case you push the white button again and close door and turn jackpot reset key again...if that don't clear the 65 code turn the power off for 5 seconds and reboot.

For the BILL VALIDATOR you will need a SET chip ... put this in the same socket just like when you cleared the Ram and power up...display will be blank (i think) ... push the white button next to the power once and you should have a 9-0 on the display. change it to 9-1 with the spin reels button then hit the white button once again and you should have a 0 on the front display...push the spin button untill you find the denomination you want then puse and HOLD the white button for about 3-5 seconds to save it.
turn off machine , replace chip with base chip and turn on and go through the sams process as before for clearing the 61 code...

WOW...THAT explanes what happened with one of my games when I replaced the base chip with a newer one and it wouldn't boot...THANKS bunker!  :3-

I think it doesn't matter with set and clear chips...
However, it does matter with SS and SP chips.
I pulled these out of the manual.
The newer board versions did away with the jumpers.
First one is section 4, and the second one is the section 5.8>>>

Well since you cleared that up....What are all the other jumpers on the board for? The ones we don't touch because we don't know???

Jumpers basically open and close circuitry on an S+ MPU board. :71-
I burned up a few board components learning what does what!  :72-
My advice? Don't touch them...lol
