Title: Universal Cap PROM for PE+ boards Post by: DDay on March 20, 2010, 07:46:57 PM Hi,
I found one of these devices in my shop; but, I can't find the instructions. It's for a PE+ board and has a bank of DIP switches. I know that it emulates different CAP PROM'S. I can't remember where I got it either. If anybody knows or has the instruction sheet, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Title: Re: Universal Cap PROM for PE+ boards Post by: jay on September 14, 2010, 02:04:44 PM These were not a "manufactured" item by IGT - this was a home built design. I have seen two versions of these.
The chips used for the Caprom's are no longer manufactured and it is my understanding that if they were that most modern burners could not write to them. You can however read the contents of one of these chips easy enough. So subsequently there have been a couple of mods made. The first was a piggy back contraption and was based on replacing the caprom with a 27c64. Using the image from a Caprom you burn a 27c64 chip. Using a 27c64 socket you simply solder the matching pins to a caprom sized socket and insert that where the Caprom goes and then simply plug in your 27c64. I think however the contents of the caprom is less than 16k. The second was to load multiple caproms into the memory space (using an offset) and then burning these to a 27c512. Then by using a dip switch bank as shown you could then use different address lines of the 27c512 and select which caprom you wanted to use. So the term "universal" was actually a bit of a mis-nomer - but it did make the availability and changing of caproms a lot easier. I think that there are pictures of both of these projects on the forum. Title: Re: Universal Cap PROM for PE+ boards Post by: channelmaniac on September 14, 2010, 11:58:22 PM I have a bunch of old PROMs, new... blank... but they aren't real cheap.
I can also program them too if you have the code you want on them. I can also duplicate existing PROMs as the programmers I have here will also read them. Title: Re: Universal Cap PROM for PE+ boards Post by: knagl on September 15, 2010, 01:42:06 AM RJ- I may take you up on that offer. I'll PM you.
