Title: My Mini 550 Project Post by: rickhunter on September 16, 2008, 03:21:00 AM I've decided to built a custom made cabinet to house the necessary guts to have a functional 550 machine. I'm now building the harnesses necessary to connect all the parts together. I will initially only use "bar essential" parts to get it going. I might do some upgrades as time passes by, but here's a general list of part I'm going to use:
1. Transformer (BIG and HEAVY block) 2. PDU (The silver box in the back where all the power comes from, also houses a triple output power supply) 3. Backplane 4. I/O board 5. CPU 1.5+ MPU Board 6. WBA bill validator cage with RS-232 board 7. WBA-12 Validator and Cash Can 8. Jackpot reset switch 9. Diagnostic Switch 10. Main Door switch. 11. LCD w/touchscreen controller 12. Meter assembly 13. Speaker My original prototype calls for a two piece setup. One will be about the size of a small 10" subwoofer which will house everything but the monitor. The monitor will be mounted on a monitor arm with a cable running down the arm connected to the box underneath. This will allow me to put the guts on the floor, and the screen on the side of my desk. Bill Validator will also go in the bottom box. Alternatively I also want to build a second box that will house both an LCD touchscreen and an LCD Top box to play dual games. This other box would be a wall mounted thing. I will post pictures as I build it. I am NOT a carpenter, so my prototype might not be the prettiest thing around, BUT it WILL work. and use a lot less space than a traditional cabinet, and cost about $600.00 in parts plus time. This is a BARE minimum 550 as I know it. There may be a way to bypass the meter assembly by building a small circuit that will put a load on all meter lines, but this was easier. There are no player panel buttons for now, but I'm thinking I'm going to wire up a Max Bet button.
