Title: aristocrate IGT 1983 problems
Post by: rjpohl on March 26, 2010, 08:14:39 PM
model R85 CB, mfg 5/83

I have pulled the cpu boards and battery are dead.  Do these need to be replaced before it will reset/work?  What is the procedure to reset.  Where can I get a replacement battery?  What is voltage?
thanks
Bob

I found it won't work without the batteries, so that's the first thing to replace. They are two AA size nickel cadmium, 1.2V each. DO NOT use NiMH or a Lithium battery, as the NiMH cells will be ruined in a month and the lithium will explode. The easiest way to get a couple of NiCds that you can solder down is to buy a replacement cordless phone battery. You can see which ones use AA size cells and they usually have three. Cut the plastic off. The cells are glued together and connected with a welded nickel strip, which can be easily soldered. Split off one of the cells and use the other two. Don't separate these, they need to be connected together at one end. Glue or tie them to the PCB and connect the free terminals to the PCB by soldering wires to the nickel strips. The connected ends don't need to be soldered down, though you can if you want.

After you get them in, the game probably still won't work at first because they are not charged, so leave it on overnight to take care of that.

Hi Op-bell

It will be a week or so before I can get the batteries and install.  I'll keep you posted on my progress.
