Title: Using "clear" chips???
Post by: ez8631 on March 27, 2010, 08:04:02 PM
OK... this is obviously a dumb question to you guys who have been doing this for a while, but I'm really new to all this.  :5-
I have a round top IGT S-plus machine with the "Diamond Tens" game in it now. I'm trying to buy a few other games since I love my machine and it's also working just fine. My question is... when I want to change out game kits do I need to use clear chips to erase anything??? Someone told me yes and someone else told me no. I don't know who to believe, but I've read a lot of posts here and it seems you folks on NLG know a lot more than these other folks I've been talking to that really make no sense either way. Thanks for any help!!!

BTW... if anyone has any really cool game kits for sale, drop me a line and send pics if you have them. Cheers!

I dont use a clear chip when changing games on S+ only if there is a problem like maybe 3100 error or something that will not reset then I try a clear chip other wise I just change the game and or reel proms You will need a set chip if you want to change the denomination or re-enable the bill validator though.

Here is a picture of a kit that is coming up for sale if your interested it is from the silver legacy casino a 2 coin buy a pay game complete with top and bottom plexie glass and reel strips with both reel & game proms

If you keep the same GAME PROM in (SPxxxx) only the REEL PROM (SSxxxx) needs to be changed if you are keeping with a related TYPE of game theme.

Since you have a Diamond Tens in the machine now there are lots of games out there that will use the same GAME PROM and only the REEL PROM will need to be changed. If you swtich to something like Haywire (TYPE 2/21) then it is required to change the GAME PROM since it is not supported by the same GAME PROM type as the Diamond Tens. Most of the time if you use a "sister" GAME PROM it will be unlikey it will need any other changes. If the machine has a SP 731 with the Diamond Tens and a switch to SP 779 for a Haywire then everything should be okay .. likewise if the machine has a SP 1271 with a switch to SP 1274 then everything should be okay.

However, if you are going to be changing out kits it would be in your best interest to have a ram, set denom chips and a chip puller available. There will be times the machine is just going to be all slot-tarted and those chips will be needed.

Thanks for the advice so far. In my machine with the "Diamond Tens" game it has an SP871 game chip and a SS7842 reel chip. Can someone tell me what my options are with those or is there some list that compares game chip compatability for different games and maybe a list for reel chip compatability too? I found the http://newlifegames.net/igtbible/ on the site here and when I click on the 2CM tab (or any of the others) and then a specific game name all it lists are the difference between the reel chips for that specific game that I can see. Sorry if I sound stupid... just trying to learn as much as I can. I'll get the clear and set chips since it sounds like I'll need them eventually anyways. I found a good source for them here today. Thanks again for the help.

You might want to read through Rick's FAQ Files. Click on the blue button underneath the banner ads at the top of every page, or look for the specific links in the right column on the main portal page. There is a lot of information there, particularly for the S+ , and including our S+ online bible.
