Title: Ram Clear Wheel of Fortune
Post by: cp on March 31, 2010, 12:58:48 AM
I have a set of eproms for the old Video WOF.

I put the   WOF  game chips in  3902 board.   used  key 22 .   went through  the  Yes Yes Yes  ...menu.   pulled the clr  /  insert base chip.  After all the initialization the  machine went directly into  game mode...  ready to play...  no key menu /  set up   ...went to denom /  denom  set...couldn't change 5c. denom... on the bottom screen...stated:   you must use key chip to change denom...  same way with game %.  Showed up at  94%...and same message... key chip needed to change  %...

Next step:   used a  key  17  ..... no change... didn't clear.... just went into "game"  mode.

Pulled the eproms out of  3902 board... put them in older  3803  board...with the key switch on the front of cookie sheet. ....  put in key 17 ...."jumped"  the key switch on (front).... Screen  just   went from  a blue to a lavender...   pulled the key 17  put in base  ...kept the jumper ON... turn on machine...went thru initialization...    Went to menu... setup...  all settings locked in ... "need key chip"   to change settings ... on the screen.

Turn machine Off....  pulled the jumper OFF...  turn machine on... all settings  still locked and no key menu  to reset denom and other settings..

What am I doing wrong ?

what are your game and base eeprom #'s?  someone could check the PSR for you to ensure you have the correct keychip.

Thanks for the reply..

Maybe my key17 is bad, when I put it in,do seem to do anything.

Can you clear it with a 22 or 40 instead of a 97?

If you get the 2 amber lights after a few seconds and not a red flashing light then your key should be working.

While I know you know this make sure the credits are zero when trying to Keychip.

My key17 must be bad then,I only get a flashing red light.

Hi Buzz,

I tried the key40.
Its seems to clear okay but right before its done booting up it comes up with this error...

"Key chip menu error"
"Group code does not match"
"Cycle power to continue"

If I cycle the power it boots up normal, but without a key menu, just a operators menu.

I have tried it in two different 3802 boards, same thing.I have the same problem that "CP",the one that started this post has.

what program versions are you running?

Key 40 and 22 will not work for that older I-Game.

Key 17 is what I use and seems to be what works.   I hear some have had luck with 22 on older I-Games but I have not when it comes to having to rekey it after setup.

here's a line from the first page of the psr:

Key Chip   The key chip is either a 4096 or 27C240 device; the label indicates KEY00005.

Slotmaster I think I was wrong about the Key 040 and WOF  :25- :25- :25-

In trying to help laneman this is what I did. First I installed a key 040 because I had some credits on the machine and was to lazy to go out to my trailer and retrieve a 097 clear. I went through all the clear steps, reinstalled the base chip and the machine did not go to key menu, but the machine boots up and plays. Next I installed a 097 clear (still to lazy, so made a new one) got 2 amber lights installed a Key 17, got a purple screen, installed base chip, machine boots up and plays but no key menu. Myself I'm happy with the set up I have. Plays 25 credits max. bet per spin.  :103- :103- :103-

Thanks for trying Buzz and everyone else.
I tried the exact same thing you did Buzz and got the same results.
If I can get my hands on a key5 going to try that next.

This is one of those things that isnt a big deal but drives you crazy because you want to know what is causing the problem. :25-

I have 3 different KEY 5 chips and have never been able to access the KEY Menu to lower the percentage on that game set, using the KEY 40 all the time Buzz may do the clear no problem, but I am sure on the older sets (mostly single denom) you are not able to access the Key Menu, an easy rule to know the 22/40 is correct is if the game has MD3 (accounting, coin, progressive then denom selections) in the denom set up page as one (not separate pages) the 40 did replace the 22, but using a 22 in a game designed for 17 will not access the key pages, please don't say a 40 works for me on all games, if it does you had just cleared the ram and have to set the denom up, while I know most here want the highest payback game, most well, all operators lower the percentage as well on set up, and using the wrong Key on install just bypasses the menu and goes to game if already had been set up or goes to denom screen

Didn't mean that it wasn't correct KEY, I just have never found a working one probably, that was so long ago most were tossed years ago, and these I have has been who knows where, they are from the mid 90's

<edit> The S-2000 Key Chip List is not really just for S-2000's but
it is how I have it listed in my files to find it.

I just realized that I had started this orig post.

My final solution to the issue was a (completely)  different set  of  WOF  eproms  I purchased.  The clear worked with  3902   and the older board too.    Used a  Key  22.   for both boards...  worked just fine.   Was able to go into all setups  /  menus...

Once I found a good key5 chip,I was able to get in the key menu.
The only thing I couldnt do is change denom, only option in the key menu is 5 cents.

CP,you must have the newer version of WOF

more than likely the denomination was hard coded on the eeprom.  :89-  back in those days the idea of multi-denom machines was just that, an idea.  when a casino wanted to order a theme the denomination had to be chosen at the time of order instead of when the program was actually being installed.  :8-
congrats to the guys who got their games running as desired and props to all the members who helped on the way :131- :3-

What was this completely different set?  Different software or just different proms?
