Title: General Reel Tilt
Post by: rjpohl on October 25, 2008, 12:43:21 PM
I recently started this slot and it worked OK for approx 20 spins, then went to "general reel tilt" error.  I completed a saferam clear and reset all parameters and it worked OK for a dozen or so spins at which time the "general reel tilt" error was back.  It has a real low humming noise coming from behind the reels that I do not believe is present on other machines.

I have considered changing out the box on the rear wall but thought I'd get some advise before proceeding.

thanks for any help

General reel tilts are caused by a few things

1)  Wheel or wheels are rubbing the door or something is getting caught like a backlit wire or reel strip loose (also a bad real optic, broken flags etc but these are usually seen every time you spin and not once in 20)
2)  Door Optic is out of alignment by just a few MM and when the reels are spinning and stop they cause the machine to shake just a bit and the optic goes open
3)  Power supply - I have not seen this be the case to often but has been once in a while
4)  MPU board issue but is also less common

doing a RAM clear will not solve this issue which is cleared with the jackpot reset key and then opening and closing the door.

Hello!

When you talk about a General Reel Tilt do you mean when the reels keep spinning at the slower speed?  You don't need to do a clear when this happens.  On mine, I have to open the door and then turn the jackpot reset key with the door open.

This happens on mine once and awhile - I can't seem to get my main door optics lined up perfectly, so if you bump the front of the machine just right during a spin, the machine thinks the door has been opened and will go into a General Reel Tilt.  It's easy to tell if this happens because you will also get a door open error along with the reel tilt.  I've actually had this happen a couple times on machines in Casinos.

No offense, but why does everyone always jump to doing a Ram clear??  :103-  I have owned IGT machines (S+ and S2000) for probably seven years and have NEVER had to do a clear.

Hello!

Does this machine have backlite reals?  I believe it is normal for machines with backlite reels to make this hum...mine does.

I was going to say that doing a clear is really never needed but did not want to confuse the original question.   Any reel tilt can not be fixed with a clear as pointed out.

Door open / jackpot reset key to clear

If you just can't get the optic to work right then replace it as that can be the issue (for dpalmi)

Thanks for all the responses.  I believe the problem is either the reel rubbing the door or the optics.  The #3 reel seems to b e bit out of round and comes very close to rubbing the door.  I think I've adjusted it to where it will not hit again.  I ran about 50 coins through it and it has not failed again.

What is the procedure for aligning the door optics because when it when into "genereal reel tilt" it had a second error that I believe was something like "closesure M".

What are the error messages for the
cash box door?
main door?
belly glass door?

thanks again

Door Open M (main door open)
Closure M means main door closed but another door is open
Cash door is B
Belly door switch(if installed) is in series with the door optic, machine would treat either door as M door.

On my machine as an example since I don't have the belly switch
If open the belly door
and open the cash door
I get the door open B
then if I open the main door with the cash door open I get the closure M
as soon as I close the cash box door all messages clear and machine ready.

Door Open M (main door open)
Closure M means main door closed but another door is open

as soon as I close the cash box door all messages clear

I can't speak with 100% certainty on the S2000 platform, but I know on other IGT products a "Closure M" message would appear after the main door (or any linked doors) had been previously opened and then closed, and would remain on the screen until the next paid game had been completed.

As such, for rjpohl, the fact that it showed you a "Closure M" message would indicate that it was in fact detecting the main door opening (potentially optics mis-aligned), even if only for a fraction of a second, then closing, causing your general reel tilt.  I've run into games on the casino floor that I've bumped with my leg in the middle of a game, causing a "Door Open M" message.  A quick thwap to the door would then "close" it to allow my game to continue (and a message of "Closure M" until the end of the next paid game).

I would have to concurn with the above statement! so DITTO ^^^^^^^^^^^

I have had the top on slant top pokers "POP" open while playing them!  So tempting to play around, but the thought of big brother getting me made me cringe! I could lift the top up and put my hands inside if I desired to. I always make a deliberately obvious motion to close the machine so that they can see I am honest, and that I did nothing!  :89-

I had the same problem with one of my machines and found that the reels were rubbing against the flourcent light bulb in the door.

...but you wouldn't have been getting a "Closure M" message with that, just a reel tilt, right?

Sorry for the slow response but my wife is having to do my typing for me. The M closure, if it went away is probably because he opened the door and then closed it......at least that's the way mine works.

Hello!

Or the machine "thinks" he opened and closed the door.  That was my issue with the the optics not lined up - just bumping the dooring would make the machine "think" the door was opened and then closed even thought I was not opening or closing the door.

Note:  Anytime the door is opened and then closed you will get the message "Closure M" until the next spin/game is compeleted.

I was changing the name on the ticket and my S-2000, 04 model and all of a sudden it decided to go into the spin reels like it does when you first
turn it on. Then it flashed general reel tilt, call attendant & closure MB. It would not clear with the jackpot key. Turned it off and it came back the same. Tried another CPU and it worked. Put the old one back in and it flashes call attendant and no other message, no lighted buttons. It will not clear with the jackpot key.

I hope it is not the CPU as I just had to replace one a few months ago. Any idea's?

Ron

I have been going crazy trying to get my S2000 to stop messing up on me just touching it the reels would go into a tilt I changed the optics did everything I coud think of was about to go crazy!! But then I read door open B means bill validator and that was the problem the door wasn't closing all the way or was opening up and moving.  But thanks for the help guys!!!

Sometimes reel games are referred to as "stepper" games.

The hum noise is the "stepper motor", stepping.  Each reel is a "stepper motor", which is a DC motor, that each time positive or negative power of the operating voltage is applied, "steps" ahead or back 1 step.  In the case of these, each step is 1.8 degrees, or 200 steps per revolution.  The computer calculates a reel position as part of a game result, and that reel position is translated into a number of pulses by the reel controller.  The reel controller feeds pulses to the reel, and watches the optics to make sure the reel is where the controller thinks it should be.  Any discrepancy is a "tilt".

I just had a "general reel tilt" on an S2000, that was cuased by the player holding his knee against the door and jiggling the door.  The part of the process I was missing was turning the jackpot key with the door open to clear the tilt.  On IGTs, cycling the door open/closed clears tilts.  I surmise thats the case for most tilts, except "General reel tilt".  Now I know.

On pulse-optic doors, where the optic diodes are the type with the brass barrel around it, you can make a physical connection between the brass barrels to "cheat" the door shut - for testing purposes of course.  I use a 2-foot long test wire with alligators on both ends.  Or, on upright terminals, a 3" long screwdriver blade held to contact both optics as the door is very gently swung shut against the screwdriver blade will also work.  With the door 3" open, you can check for true spinning of reels, bill validator bezel alignment, etc.  Just another old IGT trick...

Thanks again to the guy who knew to cycle the jackpot key with the door open to clear the general reel tilt.

Mathew.
