Title: Bally 956
Post by: cowboygames on April 05, 2010, 09:00:22 PM
Hey guys, I've got a bally 956 that doesn't pay on winning combinations. If I reach in to the side of the hopper and flip the little blue plastic lever it will payout, but on a five coin win it only pays four. Haven't really dealt with electromechanicals so I'm not sure what's going on here. :52- Origionally it wouldn't trip the handle release solenoid when coins were put in, but it showed on the door that the coin had been accepted. I seem to have got that working, now this payout activation thing. :103- Thanks in advance for any help

I assume the blue lever is on the payout unit - that controls the ZERO STOP a rubber bumper that usually melts down and sticks to that blue lever - there is a blade switch that rests on that blue lever - that switch controls the reset of the hopper after a payout - if the blue lever is stuck to the blue lever the hopper never resets.  your underpay is also part of the same problem - the rubber bumper is worn and not allowing the unit to reset to the ZERO position.

Holy crap! That black bumper IS sticky and melting! :3- Probably not adjusted right with the loss of rubber either. I noticed it earlier< but had no clue what effect it would have. Do you have a replacement one or is there a differant option?

use a mechanical pencil eraser - cut to fit.

Barry, I put a pencil eraser in like you suggested and the machine took coins and worked fine for about 50 pulls. Still takes coins everytime, but doesn't trip the payout on winning stops. I can reach in and manually trip it and it pays correctly and resets. Is there a tension adjustment on that hopper wheel or something I need to look at? I noticed the contact strip that rides on the hopper reset lever is on the top side of the lever. Should it be in the middle or is it used as tension to push the lever down as the hopper wheel turns? Think I got this tackeled Barry. One more question and hopefully the last. Is the bell supposed to ring on every payout and if not, what controls this? :103- Thanks for the help :3-

not sure what you mean you can reach in and manually trip it?   what exactly are you doing.

Trip it by pulling forward on the hopper wheel release. It seems to be working fine after an adjustment to the reset lever contacts. Seems like the bell rang on every payout before and now it doesn't. Is this another contact adjustment or a relay that's not working right? Or is it only suppose to ring on jackpots? Obviously not my machine and I'm not familiar with the electro-mechanicals. Just a little pro-bono work for a friend. Getting closer though

send a picture - have no idea what parts you are referring to.  the bell can either be activated by the hopper payout relay of by wipers on the reel mech - you will have to trace the red wire from the bell to see where it goes to.
