It is a case that someone who likes the symbol asked me to make for them, I create themed cases for people. :89- No it is aluminum, the side off of a computer case. I am using a Dremel tool, a crappy cordless one at that. Title: Re: Work Log of Carruthers3 - Biohazard Case Post by: Buzz on April 11, 2010, 03:26:19 AM next time I come over I have a Plasma Torch I will let you try out. But you will need a pretty good size air compressor and 220 V AC It cuts using a arc but generates very little heat. It will cut up to 1 inch thick steel plate with no problems.
Title: Re: Work Log of Carruthers3 - Biohazard Case Post by: CarruthersIII on April 11, 2010, 03:28:51 AM I have 220, but not sure my compressor would work, i would love to try out a plasma torch... :89- :79- :89- :79-
Title: Re: Work Log of Carruthers3 - Biohazard Case Post by: Buzz on April 11, 2010, 03:44:24 AM It's a no brainier to use. You don't even have to use a welders hood, pair of sunglasses is all that is needed

Title: Re: Work Log of Carruthers3 - Biohazard Case Post by: Buzz on April 11, 2010, 05:11:20 AM Joey I don't know most times I have to cut pretty thick metal and that takes more air, the thin stuff you have shouldn't take all that much. we can give it a try. I also have another tool that might work for you I think the name is roto grip are something like that. ( to lazy to go look ) It has a cutting tool that looks a lot like a drill bit and runs at a high speed, bet I haven't used it in five years.

Being the curious type I wondered where that symbol came from? Not an exciting story, but here it is; http://www.hms.harvard.edu/orsp/coms/BiosafetyResources/History-of-Biohazard-Symbol.htm (http://www.hms.harvard.edu/orsp/coms/BiosafetyResources/History-of-Biohazard-Symbol.htm) Title: Re: Work Log of Carruthers3 - Biohazard Case Post by: CarruthersIII on April 11, 2010, 01:35:53 PM Yeah always makes it entertaining, I like the Dremel a lot but this one sucks a few cuts through the metal and the battery is gone,
20 mins of cutting, 4 hours of charging, 20 mins of cutting, 4 hours of charging. :30- :30- Very interesting story behind the bio-hazard symbol. Title: Re: Work Log of Carruthers3 - Biohazard Case Post by: CarruthersIII on April 11, 2010, 10:05:20 PM Ok dumb question, what do you need the compressor for??? :5- :5-
Me and a friend have never used one and have no idea. Thanks Title: Re: Work Log of Carruthers3 - Biohazard Case Post by: a69mopar on April 11, 2010, 10:35:52 PM the compressed air blows the molten metal away and minimizes distortion of the metal by keeping the area cool.
Thanks, Wayne p.s. I'm not surprised Buzz has one...
