Title: What do these wires do?
Post by: theDotster on April 11, 2010, 07:32:01 AM
Hi,

Circled in yellow on the attached, two brown wires on J2 (as labelled in a field service manual, but unable to find out in the manual what they do!)

The machine has a multigame board in it and the two wires are connected at the other end to what looks like a second jackpot reset key on the left hand side of the machine.

If you turn the lock in self test mode, it doesn't register on any of the inputs.

Interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

Paul

I have seen them go to the lock on the CPU tray. And my guess is the casino would know when the board was pulled. To a lock on the outside ??

Thanks, I can see the benefit in that for the removal of the board.

To a lock on the outside ??

Definitely on the outside, the lock is exactly the same in appearance as a jackpot reset, it's in the same place at the top just on the other side, strange!

Not sure if they did this on the older machines, but on some of the newer machines some have a second jackpot reset switch for W2G situations. On the newer machines you can set them up so that Jackpots over the limit of $1200.00 usually can be either paid by ticket with the first key, or left on the credit meter with the second key. That would be my guess, but I have never seen this on a PE+ or an S+??? Just an idea...

I've seen it on one of the S+ machines at a nearby casino.
Two reset keys needed to payout the machine on certain handpays.
2 people came over to reset the machine...and it was the only one!  :25-
It's almost as if they didn't know how to configure the
machine to make it payout with a single key. LOL
That machine is long gone now...

Thanks guys, I can test this by changing the hopper limits I guess to force a hand pay. I'll post back the results.

Cheers.

$1200.00 usually can be either paid by ticket with the first key, or left on the credit meter with the second key.

I set the limit to 10, played until I got a handpay lockup and turned the normal key, this just reset the machine, I expected this but wanted to confirm normal operation.

Then I did the same again but this time turning the extra lock and nothing happened. I tried turning the extra lock and the normal jackpot reset lock at the same time, this reset the machine but did nothing out of the ordinary, so back to the drawing board.  :103-

Could it be some sort of progressive reset?

Hi dotster,
I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if there's no progressive hooked up to the machine.
In fact, just to make life simpler - I'd remove the black molex holding 2 brown wires
from the motherboard and test a handpay mode and see if the regular reset key clears the win.
If it does, then you should be okay.

I'm not in front of my machine at the moment, but could those wires be for progressive communication?  I re-read the original post and realized that they're hooked to a keyswitch.

I'm looking at PE+ schematics at the moment, but can't find J2 on the ones I'm looking at.  What kind of machine do you have?  Is it a PE or PE+?  Is it an upright?  Does it have an imbedded bill validator?

Also, can you please tell me the labels on the connectors directly above and below the J2 connector?  Thanks.

The schematics for the J2 connector
on the motherboard of an S+ show this.
Apparently it's for an MPU cage detector...
I've seen magnetic door/window sensors glued to some of my MPU cages.>>>

Are you sure that isn't J4 on the PE+?  In the diagrams I'm looking at, J4 seems to make sense based on its location on the board, and, as Bunker found, J4 is the card cage stuff (certainly not needed for home use).

From what I can tell from your picture, those wires go to pins 4 and 5 -- Card Cage Det(ect?) and B Gnd (Ground, I presume).

Sorry...I pulled a diagram drawing for an S+.  :208-
My dumb mistake...I forgot Dotster had a PE+  :25-
When I glanced at he photo he put up...I swore I saw an S+ motherboard...my bad.

Thank you very much Bunker and knaql. K+ to you both.

Sorry for the J2, I was having difficulty finding the connector in the manual, wasn't someone else after a manual recently, they really aren't worth it when you guys know all the answers!  :79-

I wasn't concerned about it being a problem but just like to know what all the machine does, if it does do something with the progressive then I might try to get it to work :-)

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is a 'card cage'? Is this cashier as in taking your chips to the cage?

Many thanks again.

Nothing to do with a progressive -- the "card cage" is the tray where the MPU board is.  Depending on the casino and/or the jurisdiction, there could be a lock and/or a detector that would notice if the card cage had been opened (an indication that the program chips may have been tampered with).  On my WMS Dotmation slot, there was an actual "cage" looking cover that would go over the MPU board, and had a switch attached to let the machine know if it had been opened or not.

After changing your hopper settings, did you hit a win classified as a Jackpot?  Sometimes the extra key is just for these wins...at least thats what I have been told.  But as the previous poster said, disconnect the wires and try a handpay and if it works just go with it lol.  Good luck with it.
