Title: DBV-200
Post by: Wildlos on October 27, 2008, 02:07:34 PM
:99- Ok i have a problem and not very good with these machines. The validators are on WMS machines with an attitude. I have the bill validator fail on a couple of these machines and dont know how to fix it. Actually i cant understand why it messes up. It will work for a day maybe two if im lucky and then out of nowhere it accepts the $$$ but doesnt give credits. I turn the machine off for a day and it works fine for a day or two after i turn it back on then back to the same crap. Any suggestions? The BV is a DBV-200 and if i switch it out for one thats working from a different machine it works fine for a day or two then decides to stop giving credits. Please help before i loose the rest of my hair  :37-

Do you get any comm errors on the screen?

Have you tried swapping power supplies from a known good working machine?  You could have issues with your 12 volt line.

Bill stealing is a serious crime at JCM! But in the majority of known cases (like, 100%) the problem is in the game software or in the communications link, and WMS has been a known offender. The machine is probably losing the "vend valid" code. The validator won't stack until the game gives it the go-ahead, then after it stacks it tells the game "vend valid", then the machine gives credits. That's how it's supposed to work. Does the validator lock up after stealing the bill? If it locks up, the VV is not being acknowledged. If it doesn't lock up, the VV code was acknowledged by the game and the credits got lost in the game some time after that.

This is a communications problem between the DBV and the slot.
The most typical cause of this problem are cracked solder
joints on the DBV connector where it solders to the DBV
circuit board.

Try this: take the DBV head out of the slot. then there's
3 screws that remove the bottom metal case plate from the
head. This will expose the lower circuit board. You will need
to bend back 2 metal tabs and remove a transistor heat
sink screw to get the board out of the metal casing. Using a
fine soldering iron, resolder the male communication
connector pins at this board. These solder joints often crack
from plugging/unplugging the communications cable, and
just from general vibration of the head when it "turns".

The communications plug is the largest plug on the DBV.
As facing the game, it's on the left and behind the (2 wire)
power plug. It's usually a black plug with 6 or 7 red wires
(opposed to the white power plug that has just 2 wires).

Most problems with DBV heads i have fixed by resoldering
these connectors pins and by updating the firmware.
If you need the latest Wms/Bally firmware for a DBV-200 head,
just let me know. It's version 2.70, and accepts the colored
money (including $5 bills). You will need to burn a 27040
EPROM to make that work.

The picture below, though not really addressing this exact
problem, shows the large serial connector that needs to
be resolder.

If you have the v 3.70 with cs AA03 in a WMS that could be some of the problem right there on the video slot, it may work in some of the WMS reels, but it was designed as a 044P/045P Bally only program, actually the program had to come from Bally only earlier this year, with the latest updates of colored money the WMS needed W or WP to function correctly

What if you have the same program use it in a bally and it does the same thing
