Title: Universal Ultra Series Dollar Bill Validator Post by: uniman on April 14, 2010, 02:36:23 AM The Ultra Series uses a JCM DBV-145 bill validator. Unfortunately there are no upgrades available for any large portrait bills. Only the older bills will work.
On the main board a couple of dip switches need to be ON for the bill validator to be activated and recognized. On SW#3 the #5 dip switch needs to be ON. And on the SW5 set the dip switch #1 to ON. There are six error codes associated with the bill validator. They are; 94 - B.V. power down 95 - bill cashbox removed 96 - bill cashbox full 97 - B.V. abnormal status (I like this one, nice and vague!) 98 - B.V. power down while accepting bill 99 - bill cashbox door is open (like this one too) The validator is powered by a separate power supply located on the back wall behind the hopper. It has a connector to the 110v distribution panel (also behind the hopper) and a two-wire small connector to the bill validator. If this power supply is bad you may get error 97 or 94 depending on how bad the power supply is. There is another thing that can cause error 94. Right next to the small two-wire connector on the bv is a three pin connector with one wire. This wire tells the main board the bv has power. If it is loose or broken it will cause this error. Title: Re: Universal Ultra Series Dollar Bill Validator Post by: uniman on April 14, 2010, 03:12:18 AM Error 95 is bill cashbox removed. It is the most common I see on my machines.
When the cashbox is placed in the case it latches to the silver plate in the back. This plate when horizontal will close a circuit to the bill validator (bv) thru the two pins that validator plugs into. If this silver plate does not latch it will be faced slightly downward and open the circuit. The bv not seeing the closed circuit sends the Error 97 if it is not latched. Also, there are two mini-switches in the back of the case. One for the bill validator and one for the cashcan. Both switches must be closed and they are connected to the main board by the white connector on the back of the case. If the switches are not closed or the connector is removed error 95 only will occur. The bv has its own mini-switch on the back of the bv and if it is not closed error 97 will occur. And then there is the little glass window on top of the cashcan with a small prism in it. That must line up with what looks like an optical sensor on the bottom of the bv. It lines up when the cashcan is latched in place. If it doesn't line up you get error 97. When removing the cashcan you must first push down on the black tab on the front of the cashcan. This releases the handle and rotates the prism out of view of the bv. (Again, error 97 will occur if you do this while powered up.) You then turn the handle clockwise which draws a cover over the bills in the can and releases the silver latch in the back of the case. Got all that? :200- If you have both error 95 and 97 then your cashcan is not latched (the bv sees this and sends error 97) and the miniswitch in the back for either the cashcan and/or bv is not closed and the main board sees that causes error 95. Error 99 - cashbox door is open. Don't let this one fool ya. It really means Belly Glass Door is open. There is a white cherry switch on the opposite side of the bv in the door. This switch is wired to the bv wire harness. Why? Because casino's needed to just open the belly glass when emptying the cashboxes. So if you see error 99 check the switch for the belly glass. Title: Re: Universal Ultra Series Dollar Bill Validator Post by: uniman on August 16, 2011, 11:10:29 PM Almost a year to the day and I have another Ultra owner looking at getting that bv working!
Wanted to add a couple of fixes. On the bv wire harness there is a two pin connector with blue and black-white stripe wires. This goes to the belly glass switch on uprights and the bv access lid on slant tops. You can jumper these two wires to avoid error 99. On the back of the bv case is a four pin connector. Two wires detect the cashcan removed and the other two detect bv not in place. These two can be jumpered to avoid errors. See pic below. Jumpering the two sets of wires will avoid errors from bad microswitches or broken connections at the microswitches. On the back of the bv itself is another microswitch. This is the bv detecting the cashcan in place. (Also the prism mirror on top of the cashcan must be aligned with the bv's sensor) You can tape this switch closed. (this is done if the paddle in the back of the case is damaged) Also added, a clearer pic of the harness connections. ONLY do the jumpers if errors like 95, 97, and 99 persist. |
