Title: BALLY 989 SPECIFIC PROBLEMS - NEED HELP SUGGESTIONS
Post by: RiseLikeRa on April 15, 2010, 02:22:07 PM
Here is the message that I sent to Jerry.  I am sure all of you know more than me about this issue so any help would be appreciated.

As for my machine my observations are as follows.  1. On this 4 reel machine when the handle is pulled ony 3 reels turn.  One of the two center reels attempts to turn but it seems to be stopped immediately buy something.  2.  And speeking of reels turning, The handle does not release when a coin is inserted.  It is a 3 coin/ line machine.  I have opened the door and pushed down the little wire thingy on the coin mech.  I hear that something is actuated but i have to move a rod manually to free up the handle.  Associated with this is the fact that the unit does not "step up" as you simulate adding the second and third coins.  I am familiar with the dash pot switch located at the back of the tube thing.  I was told to bridge the contacts an see if this solved my electrical problems it did not.  All lights work on the machine and the body and chrome looks better than average.  I would hate for it to just sit silently.  I have a multi tester.  Whatever I dont have I will buy.  Thanks for any help of suggestions.  Terrance

Greetings group.  I am brand new to this forum.  I just bought a bally 989 wide body machine made in 1978.  This machine  has numerous issues.  I dont think any of which are fatal errors.  The cabinet and glass is in very good condition.  The 4 reels are nice and clean.  All lights work.  Its a 3 coin machine.  If there is anyone  in the New York City area that can help me I would be forever in your debt.  I am willing to transport machine and pay for your services.  I would hate to have a 200 pound paper wieght.  Thanks so much.  Terrance

If you are in Manhattan, good luck. I don't know if there are slot techs in Manhattan as there are no casinos there. But I'm sure someone can help with this model. A69mopar and Foxslots are very good with bally questions. I live close to you but no not about that model. Welcome to NLG.

Greetings & welcome.

Yes it does look to be in very nice condition, and black reels too- cool.  Sorry but I'm not in NYC either.  But you came to the right place if you're looking for suggestions with any thing specific.

Cheers,
Mark

Why not start here with some detailed descriptions as to what is wrong with your machine?
I'll betcha you can fix it with some guidance from our members here!

Here's a good question to start with>>>

What happens when you turn the power switch on?

Hi,

I have a very similar machine. I live in Vegas, but I will be in NY this coming Thursday. What exactly is your machine not doing?
Here is a picture of my game. I have been working on Bally slots for about 25 years. I wont have any test equipment with me, but we should be able to track the problem down.
You can call me at 702-279-7613.
