I just programmed and installed one in a Bally Monte Carlo I am shopping out....after boot up, the correct JP number comes up, game plays correctly and the meter increments to the exact amount I wanted....in other words, all is well. I turned the machine off to do something else....turned it back on, the JP amount comes up as it should, I put money in and play....this time it does not increment at all...just hangs on the last amount it was at when I turned the machine off.  Any advice?

I'd jiggle all the wires connected to the display and cham2.
Especially the wires going to the relays on the backplane board for the progressive.
Loose connection perhaps?

thanks...I'll give it a try.  Does a Mikohn lose setting information if the battery is dead or dying?  Seems like it would have lost the JP information also though.

Yes, I'm afraid it needs a good battery to retain previous settings and progressive memories.
I've not been lucky enough to locate them, as I think r273 and/or tacman wanted some for their Mikohns too.

Low battery was my guess too but keeping the JP info threw me.

If the battery dies it will lose the JP info...

Got a number off the old battery?

I'm curious do you take a voltage reading on that battery ?
if so what did it read.
I have one starting to act up now and it's at 2.8v

yep...around 2.82

2.82vdc should be enough to retain the memories so I don't think it's a battery problem.
I've seen machines retain their CMOS memory as low as half a volt.
In fact, an S+ 3.6VDC battery won't give out a [12] error until the battery falls briefly below 1.8 or 1.4 volts!
It's a warning to replace it.
If there's any life at all - it will still get a slight power surge or
tiny boost to get the battery above the [12] error voltage redline.
It's the nature of batteries.
It will draw a touch of power from somewhere and appear to read slightly higher on a multimeter.
I don't know if the Mikohns fall into the same voltage margins.
Mikohns may need more voltage to retain memories?
I haven't seen any reference on this in any of my Mikohn reading materials.

However, none of this really explains why you're losing some of your Mikohn settings.
Some component may be beginning to fail on the Mikohn board and
failing to allow the battery to retain the CMOS or flash memories.
It could be something simple as a resistor or diode changing their values and are now out of specification margins.
Trying to figure exactly which component on a board is doing this is beyond me.
I wish I knew a lot more about troubleshooting board components so I could help you.  :8-

I'd try changing the battery to a new one to see if that helps at all.
I'd say that just about any 3VDC battery should suffice.

Yeah that's where mine starting flaking out yesterday
actually the machine is at my Mother's house where it sat for a week shut off
I went over yesterday for some final touch ups turned the machine on it and had $0.00
I tried to reprogram the display with psp from her pc but no go and I had no volt meter at her house
Sooooooooo I took the glass with display and cham2 back home first thing I did was read the battery it was at 2.82
my thinking was this battery must be shot then but what the heck I will try to program it on my trusty pc
and it worked so now I won't know for sure if it's the battery for a day or two
but I would also like to find a few of these 3v VL2020 or better yet install a holder so you can just slip in a new one.
If anyone else has changed these out please chime in with some sources and part #

As usual I'm a day late and a dollar short in replying, but for future reference, I just replaced the battery on my CHAMII+ last night and I can tell you that any 3V battery will do fine. I was unable to find the VL2020*  so I just bought a CR2032, which had the largest MAh rating of the standard calculator batteries typically found in local stores. It works fine.

*(or maybe it was just that I didn't want to pay all that SH for one battery? :103- I had looked a few months back, so CRS.)


<ADD> Scratch all that. We have since discovered that the CHAM II+ recharges the battery so using a regular battery without a diode isn't a good idea.

I got this in the mail today, is this all I need? What do I use to attach the display to the glass?

A power cord and scotch tape, the glass should have a border around the area the display goes in most are taped in.

Usually there's 4 strips of wood glued to the progressive glass and the display just fits in there snugly...

I also forgot to add a bunch of Patience  :8- :8- :8- :8- :8- :8- :8-

I just taped the glass in and then used a black marker around the outside to cover the small gap.... Looks fine....

All the plastic stands are broken that hold the board on top of the power supply. Anyone know where I might find some?

Take one out ( broken or not) but it will serve as the correct sizing as you head out to your local hardware store and look in those steel cabinets where all the washers, screws and O-rings are.
I'm not too sure of Radio Schnack carries them.
I'll look and see if I have any extra ones in the morning at work...

If is the plastic type you can find them at Fry's and on eBay.

Also, check out this thread...We all talked about this issue a little while ago....I have had my machine unplugged for a couple months now and just tried it and it keep all the memory and the battery is still at 3.0 volts...(note I did remove the diode because it is rechargeable)...

Started to begin Cham 2 install today and realized it didnt come with the cable to connect to backpane. Anyone know where I might get one?
