Title: S+ Sound, No Sound or Differnt sound
Post by: Goldfinger on May 03, 2010, 01:20:12 AM
:99-I was just thinking that after playing my S2k that the sound on my S+ is just kind of dull/bla so my question is there a way to write new sounds into the sound device on an s+. I am not sure if this is possible or not, but have been told the short answer is no, But I was thinking that where there is a will there is a way so can any one please provide any input on this subject? :30- :30- :81-
I don't know what the sound files are if they are just a midi sound or something different and are they on the SS or SP chip or a different chip on the board that could be rewritten to get more or more advanced sounds.
thanks for ant help

On an S+ MPU, at the U55 location should be AY38912 Eprom occupying the socket.
This chip contains written data regarding S+ sounds.
The SS reel chip at socket location U56 contains code that picks the
sound bytes to play at certain times during the program.
Which bytes that pertain to sounds on these chips is highly secretive I'm sure.
However, like any other chips, cd's, or any other code written data devices in the world -
I would believe that there are a few computer geeks that are
trying to figure out what's written in them!  :96-
It would be nice to add various sound bytes to our home machines... :184- :183- :199-

Jim (Stolistic) may be able to help you with this -- he knows how the tone generator works on the PE+ (and S+ uses the same, I believe).

As I had already mentioned, the tone generator on the S+ is primitive and you won't be able to do much beyond changing the pitch of the tones. You are not going to get advanced sampled sounds like the S2000 uses unless you want to build a separate sound module using modern components that will take the place of the S+ sound generator.

Sat
now that's a thought an add on sound board is that in the realm of possibility change out the old tone generator to a more modern sound platform, even in a mono form so where would you start at to do an upgrade could you use the existing socket to plug in a different device or cable to the new platform?
K+ to you Sat keep the ideas coming maybe some one will have a solution

What about the sound that comes from a sg150 sigima that is an older platform also but seems more advanced than the S+ like on the free N easy machine dose that use a sound board or something similar?
