Title: Code 61 loop
Post by: drkair on May 04, 2010, 10:54:08 AM
I replaced my battery on my S Plus and now it is stuck in the code 61 loop.

Does anyone know if I can clear the ram with the clear chip from my PE plus?

I have a set 015 chip but no clear chip for my S Plus.

There's a few ways to clear the CMOS memory chip on an S+ MPU board.
The best way is to place an ad in the "Classifieds" section for a clear chip and
hopefully one of our esteemed vendors will spot your needs!
I never hurts to have the right chips for your machine!

Another way is to use a completely different SP chip.
For example: if you have an older SP such as an SP873, take it out and
install a newer SP chip such as an SP1271.
That will force the MPU to clear the CMOS and reset everything.
However, you will need to use the SET chip after that to re-enable the bill acceptor.

Another way which sometimes some people have luck with is to
take out the CMOS chip and ground the legs of the eprom on some metal.
If your C024 chip on the motherboard is in a socket
and can be easily removed - do that same with that one too!
Rubbing the legs on metal causes the rams to become completely corrupt which
sometimes is also forced to be reset by the microprocessor on the MPU.
This trick does not always work,  but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Remember to do any or all of these procedures with the machines'
power OFF before removing anything (wire connectors, MPU's, motherboards) or
you will have more problems down the road.

Using the clear chip from your PE+ I'm not sure about.
If you have a chip reader/programmer and report back to us what the checksum of that chip is -
maybe someone will do a comparison and tell you
if that chip can indeed be used to perform a clear on the S+.
I'd advise against it until you are certain though.

If you have the IVC 006 for the PE+ then YES, it will work as a clear in the S+, if not we can help you out with a clear chip

It only says PE+ clear. So I can't be sure.

Give her a shot, if you put it in and the machine goes "ding" pull the handle and the game should count up to 999 (goes in Game socket)

You don't think it will hurt anything if it is the wrong chip?

It's not going to fry anything, as long as you put the chip in in the correct direction.  Worst case, it'd be like putting a Mac disk into a PC -- it won't know what to do with it, but it won't break anything.

No joy. Guess it isn't the correct chip. You were right it didn't do anything.
