Title: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Jake777 on November 01, 2008, 05:04:52 PM Hi All
Having trouble clearing 21 code on my S+. Opening and closing the door does not seem to help. Machine will flash credits for a moment then 21 code appears. Any ideas on what might be hanging the machine, checked for jammed coin none and no :103- bills stuck in bill validitor. Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: westec1 on November 01, 2008, 05:16:43 PM The 21 code is usually from a coin optic failure,
check the coin optic connections, the board located right below the coin comparitor Wes Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: a69mopar on November 01, 2008, 06:18:55 PM Also check for dust or debris in the optics (below the comparitor).
Good luck, Wayne Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: knagl on November 01, 2008, 08:50:21 PM Indeed, 21 is a coin-in error. If you have some compressed air, you could try blowing out the optics to remove any dust.
If you have another machine, try putting the optics from the working machine into the non-working machine for troubleshooting purposes -- you may need to replace them. Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: westec1 on November 01, 2008, 09:28:47 PM One other thing to check
the coin optic and coin comparitor harness connects to a larger molex plug behind the coin comparitor mounting bracket, check to make sure this is plugged in firmly you may have to remove the the coin comparitor mounting bracket to get proper access to the plug Wes Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Jake777 on November 02, 2008, 12:37:36 AM Thanks All
For all the suggestions, tried the can air thing and wouldn't you know it no air in the can. I'll get some tomarrow. I did see alot of coin dust in the area. I assume that to remove the optics they are mounted to the comparator bracket, I can take the other one out of my other machine if it comes to that. Thanks again I'll report back with the results. Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Jake777 on November 03, 2008, 02:28:24 AM Well the canned air did not do the trick. I did take the optics board off and give it a good cleaning. When the power is on are the three LED suspost to be lit, they are not. I have not checked the connection behind the bracket. If all else fails does anyone know who I might contact to get a new optics board?

If not you may want to acquire them if you order parts. Everyone should have them just in case. If you already have them, I would suggest ram clear next.
Thanks, Wayne Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Foster on November 03, 2008, 04:51:50 AM The 3 LED's Do not light up unless you have a digital camera or cell phone that is Infrared sensitive.
Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Jake777 on November 04, 2008, 12:46:26 AM Hi All
I tried the camera thing and didn't see anything, I know my night vision would pick up IR, my question is are they "on" alll the time when power is on. If I don't see anything is it because of the fault or possibly bad coin optics. Someone mentioned Ram Clear. I have a chip and a set chip. Think I should proceed that way before accruing coin optics replacement. Thanks for all the help Brian.............. Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: westec1 on November 04, 2008, 01:02:33 AM At this point it wouldn't hurt, try reseating the game board and check all the plugs at the top housing of the game board cage,
if that doesn't work try the ram clear Wes Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Foster on November 04, 2008, 08:42:07 AM Try doing the input tests related to the coin optics board, if it will let you.
They are supposed be all on unless a coin passes through them, or temporarily remove the 2 screws holding the optics board with connector and coin test switch Enter each test move the board enough if it is a one and see if changes to a zero do it for each optic if they are 3 separate tests. Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Jake777 on November 05, 2008, 01:09:32 AM I tried the ram clear procedure and set, no help the 21 code is still there. I am not familiar with the optics test mentioned. Just a novas learning as I go. How do you place the machine in the mode where I can see the the one and zero's. I also am contacting Rocky Mountian slots for a replacement optics. I think this machine is possesed I just had to do a ram clear last month for a 43 code error. Thanks for the help again.
Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Foster on November 05, 2008, 05:17:20 AM Press Self Test Switch until you see 1 in coin played.
Winner Paid Display will show 10 1 , if it shows a 0 then Coin A is not working Turn jp key so it changes to 11 1, 0 then B optic not working. Turn jp key so it changes to 12 1, 0 then C optic not working. I included the PSR for a 1271 game chip. I did it so you could see the input test and output test listings. Some of the other options may or may not be available with your game chip. The Input and Output tests are pretty much the same across the different game (SP) chips Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Ron (r273) on November 05, 2008, 09:23:33 AM Also if you have not done so, look in the "Submit a New File" section, which
may help you understand a little more of the many options you do have. Look for: IGT_S+_PSRs_&_TEST_OPTION_SHEETS_SIMPLIFIED_V3.zip Ron Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Jake777 on November 06, 2008, 02:38:39 AM Thanks to all that helped....
I did the optics test and got a failure on 2 and 3. Thinking that I would have to replace the optics I tore it out. I figured one more try and it was corrected, don't really know what I did but it is working. These IGT's are amazing I normaly tinker with older Bally's. Again Thanks Very Much. I don't know much about the Karma thing but everyone should get one. I've been following this entire post and I totally agree with Blueridge's suggestion. I pretty sure that when you put the coin-in optics back together, you probably wiggled a connection on the flat cable and got power back to your optics. That's why it's working for now- if you dont find and repair the loose joint, then the problem WILL come back. That's how "fickle" S+'s are........ Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: Jake777 on November 07, 2008, 10:48:19 PM I agree, I learned a lot from this,I just hate to go bck in again. Wife played last night with no problems, but seems after the ram clear the machine is tighter that a drum. Guess my home casino is becomming just like the real ones. I will go in and fix it, just hate when a machine is down.
Title: Re: Help Clearing 21 Coin Tilt Code Post by: kwedeking on January 01, 2009, 08:43:43 PM wow, so this is just the thread i was looking for. I have an '86 vintage S-Slot at my father in law's house i'm trying to repair (and impress him in the process :131-) I actually have the comparitor setup on my desk. however, next time I am at home I'll see if any of these tips work for mine. This thing hasn't been running in many years (i would put it at 5 to 10). I had to replace the battery on the board, and remove the cobwebs from the comparitor. Any other suggestions for me?

Just had the 21 code. Wasn't the coin optics but the door switch was my problem. Just didn't have it latched good enough. 21 code is gone now and the machine plays. |
