Title: Help! I need to replace a CAP on my Tatung monitor Post by: racergiant on September 16, 2008, 03:55:03 AM Started by pinballwiz -
I have a 19" Tatung monitor in my Bally GameMaker casino game that needs to have a CAP replaced. I have not worked on monitors before, and I am a bit nervous about having to discharge it. Can someone offer some advice or soothing words that may make this experience less nerve-wracking? Anyone in NJ read this board? Would you be willing to help me out? Thanks, Rob Title: Re: Help! 1. Unplug the monitor. 2. Leave it alone for a few hours. If you can afford to waste a lot of time, twenty-four hours would be better. 3. Wear rubber-soled shoes (no steel toes) and safety goggles. Take off all your jewelry, especially rings and watches. You don't want to be grounded in any way. 4. Find a heavy flat-bladed screwdriver with good insulation. A Swiss Army knife is not acceptable. 5. Find a heavy-gauge wire with alligator clips on the end. 6. Take the monitor's case off -- and don't forget where the screw goes in. This could lead to embarrassment. 7. Attach one alligator clamp to an unpainted portion of the metal frame. 8. Attach the other alligator clip to the screwdriver's metal shaft. 9. Make sure that neither you or the screwdriver are in contact with anything metal. 10. The anode is a wire covered by a suction cup. Slide the screwdriver blade under the suction cup until you hear a loud pop and see a blue flash. 11. Wait for about 30 minutes and repeat. or check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4GB1ui8WR4 or this link http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=944943 cheers Ozzy Title: Re: Help! One of the caps that is often replaced on some Tatungs is Bi-polar. These are usually marked with a BP or NP, something to watch for. Title: Re: Help! I need to replace a CAP on my Tatung monitor Post by: racergiant on September 16, 2008, 03:56:10 AM By pinballwiz -
OK, replaced the cap, and one problem is solved. Thanks for the tips. Now the second issue - the monitor will go out of focus after several minutes. We're not sure where to go from here. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Rob Title: Re: Help! I need to replace a CAP on my Tatung monitor Post by: racergiant on September 16, 2008, 03:56:47 AM By ESDAVE -
hi rob for your focus fault, pull off neck/tube board clean pins and socket with switch cleaner then use hairdryer on pins and socket for2/3 minutes this can solve fault, if not try focus adjustment on line transformer move back/forward , if still a fault could be line transformer or tube base , replace base befor transformer . esdave uk engineer |
