So I'm in the process of phasing out my hard meters and using the soft meters to check the accounts of each machine (IGT S & S+). A friend of mine told me that while the hard meters don't register the jackpots (including the machine payout max., anything over 1000 credits) the soft meters register everything, is this so ? I don't want any problems when I go to check the accounts of the machine. By the way I just read the 1st and 2nd hard meters (in & out).

The PSR's explain it in detail more. You just need the PSR for the game eprom that you're using.
An easy way to check "in&out" is this way:
turn and hold the reset key for a couple of seconds.(You are now in "Accounting Mode")
A one(1) should pop up, hit the "play" button once and the value shown on the display should be the"IN" meter.
Hit the "play" button again will show you the "OUT" value.
The others you'll need the correct PSR to decipher the values shown on the display.
To get out of "Accounting Mode" , just open and close the door once.

I understand that part, what I want to know is does the "OUT" value on the display include Jackpots and all "Hand Paid Winnings" or do you have to record those separately (manually) as I did with the hard meters ? Using SP731 and SP1271.

They are separate. The books have a value for "total coin out" (usually meter 02*) which must be added to "soft credit collect" (usually meter 04* or 05*) and "jackpot pays" (usually meter 06*) to get the actual GT paid out to the customer.

*For the older SPs like 731 simply progress through the bookkeeping meters to these values. "soft credit collect" is meter 4 on the older chips.
  For the newer SPs like 1271 these values are all in the first group "Display Meters (1)". "soft credit collect" is meter 5 on the newer chips.

Note: The amounts credited to each of these meters is based on the settings in Option 7 etc. It is not set to arbitrarily record pays over 1000 coins as a jackpot. Anything paid directly to the player by the machine is recorded as "coin out". Any SINGLE hit lockup amounts are credited to jackpot pays. Any credits on the machine that are hand paid to the player when the player presses the "cash out" button (and that are cleared by turning the key) are registered as "soft credit collect" BTW, those soft credits DO go to the mechanical coin-out meter no matter how many credits there are. I've tried it, and it sucks to see my poor meter tick off three thousand times.

Thanks StatFreak. Those hard meters can only tick so much before they start to jam, caused a lot of problems business wise that's why I'm switching to the soft meters.

I was digging around this morning asgard and I found a single meter I have.
It's a "hard  meter" but it's non-mechanical.
It has an LED display and there are two rows, and there's a reset button on it.

One's for the "IN" and the other's for the"OUT".
I checked my reciepts and found out that I paid $11.99 last August to ebay seller "video1963".
I had typed in "Cherry master LCD display Dual Row Counter w/reset" when searching on ebay.
Shipping was a scam of $11.00.
Not cool...... :72-
It is certainly not a cheap alternative at this time.
Plus you'll get way better records on the S+'s built-in accounting mode.

How on earth have you been doing your true stats without having BILL METERS and other related info, are you a casino in the CARIB  ?????

Much smaller than a casino. They are called 'Gaming Lounges', no more than 150 machines per lounge. I just minus the 'out' from the 'in' and jackpots and handpays are recorded manually because of tax purposes, if a player wins over a certain amount (usually 1000 credits), it is taxed by the government. We use tokens no bills (gaming law).

Send me your info on machines including all game types, %, manufacturer, will write a spot on program for you if only includes as you say 150 machines.
