Title: WMS 40x dotmation strange error (bcPln pron 1) Post by: cfh on November 03, 2008, 09:40:45 PM Has anyone seen this error before? i can't find it in the service
guide, and i can't figure out what it's saying. It displays this message after about 5 seconds after power-on. After pressing the test button it displays a "nEEd ClEAr". But if you turn the game off, count to 3, and then power back on, it boots like nothing ever happened. Is there an EEPROM on the backplane board like there is on the motherboard of a S+? Title: Re: WMS 40x dotmation strange error (bcPln pron 1) Post by: KirkLasVegas on November 04, 2008, 12:51:27 AM From what I have learned (so far) is that PRon is Power ON error. I suspect the info concerning the backplane and the EEPROM on it are indeed at fault.
I would tend to beleive that info in the Mainboard DOES NOT match the info stored in the backplane (workers swapping CPU's). Start shopping for a new EEPROM for the backplane (about $5.00) if that. Same one I agree. And "Pron" does mean prom. They had to work with the limited LEDs to display messages. Check the backplane for loose connector or just reseat the boards, or possibly the e square chip Jim's suggestion is most likely the cause and solution. The "Need Clear" message appears when the data on the backplane chip doesn't match the data in the XU game ROM. Clay says that "if you turn the game off, count to 3, and then power back on, it boots like nothing ever happened." -- so the data does match when it can be read properly. for XU2 and XU3. (there are 2 versions floating around.) I've tried it in several different *working* games with the same result. Title: Re: WMS 40x dotmation strange error (bcPln pron 1) Post by: knagl on December 12, 2008, 02:21:15 AM Good to know. Thanks for the follow-up. :3-
