Title: Bally E2203 No Sound
Post by: dormi on July 02, 2010, 01:01:19 PM
Have a Bally E2203-4-312 4 reel slot with no sound.  Machine came to me with no sound and missing ribbon cable to AS3518-130 sound board.  Speaker was bad , after replacing it sound board will pass self test.  First cable placed from J6 on I/O board to J2 on sound board was straight through pin 1 to pin 1 etc. didn't work.
Next cable matched address and data names resulted in a crossover cable with pin 1 to pin 16,  pin 2 to pin 15 etc still nothing.  Don't have a cabinet wiring  diagram  so am just guessing at what connects sound board to game.  Any ideas anyone?

The game chip (P1) has to have the sound option number 1 - then the ribbon cable from the IO board to the sound board (need the daughter board on the IO board).   If you provide the program number I can tell you if it has the sound option (P1 eprom on the mpu) or do a 6 test and the program number displays on the win meter.

The P1 # is 543979 P/N # E2203-4

your program is correct for sound - you have other issues - either the ribbon cable from the io board to the sound board with the daughter board and power connector to the daughter board - the transformer - the speaker - the sound board itself  - when you press the self test button on the sound board do you get any sound?

Daughter board, machine didn't come with one.  To match address and data lines I made one out of perf board, but if it has power going to it guess their is more to it than that.  Self test works fine, sound board input decoder and  flip flops, seem OK.   Thank you for looking up sound option and all your help
