Title: WBA11 SS - DOA - time 4
Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on July 02, 2010, 03:36:14 PM
Have 4 IGT S+ machines in a row - all with WBA11 transports that are DOA!!! no power.   All my WBA12s  work.   Am I just having bad luck or am I doing something wrong?

Look at the eprom on the 11's and see if the ID is 022/23, I hope you are not interchanging the 11's in the same game as 12's, that won't work, different connector

the transports are correct 11s with and they are in the correct housing - they read wba11-ss id-022/023 ver 3.00-03 on their label - the eprom only says new 10s.  It is strange that I have 4 of these in a row that are DOA - no cycling - all the other BVs are wba12s and they function as expected.  have tried mixing and matching the heads/transports/cans amoung the 4 and nada.  Are the 11s a problematic device or ?  for whatever its worth all 4 are RWB!!!  Out of 40 machines - 4 failed (11s)  all others (12s) no problem.

Check the power supplies

I Swapped them the 1st two times - with no result - so I didn't try again for the last 2.  Do those p/s fail that often?

Yes, if the solid case Phiphong brand, just use one known to work from the 12's, you are sure the connector is the wedge type in the cabinet on the 4 you have the 11's in, also the 11's have 3 white connectors going right into the board on the left side correct?

not sure what connectors you mention - as these machines were complete when I got them - all I did is remove all the tracking wiring etc.  which I do to all these machines.  I know there are 2 power supplies - 1 black and other is the steel - which all the bv have.  3 white connectors going into the board on the left side?    are you referring to the mother board?

Black power supply is not for the WBA, the WBA uses a few brands, Phiphong are aluminum and prone to failure, the connectors I was referring to were on the BV, nothing to do with the machine

Thats what i meant - they all have the steel ones - not sure how many connections there are - know there are several for the p/s -  will swap out some KNOWN good p/s and see what happens - I know tried this before - but will give it one more shot.  thank you.
I double checked all the connections 3 harness to the cabinet and 3 to the transport.  substitiuted a working power supply - still DEAD.   Going to change out the 11 frame with a 12 - have some 12 transports - and will see what happens then.  Maybe someone just stuck bad transports into the machines to make them parts complete!!!  Is there ANY possibility of MPU/CPU/ ss or sp conflicts?   Seems strange that all 4 games are variations of RWB  10mhz boards.

I now have 4 (four) DEAD WBA11 transports.  Anyway to fix them - what to look for etc?   or are they even worth the effort?   I see Rudy has them for $14.00 reconditioned!!!!

the answer is - the WRONG SOFTWARE - seems the EPROM was for a S2000 (did not know there would be a difference) but I got an updated eprom for the NEW 10s and the BVs came to LIFE!!!!!

Strange to see S2000 DBV eproms in S+'s...how did that happen?  :128- :129-

PROBABLY - someone just burnt a bunch of eproms and didn't check.  Since all 4 had the same label on the eprom - and all 4 didn't work - I just questioned the seller and viola - the answer IS.  soon as I update - they all powered up -  again - the original symptom - DEAD - no power - no cycling.  So bad software does cause issues that you would not normally check for.

AH! Good! Thanks for the update... :3-
You're right...something to watch for when troubleshooting dead DBV's.

Bunker  this may help someone if the future.  I had 4  S 2000s with WBA 13's all BV's were known to be good. Power the machine on and the BV would cycle but would not except the bills. Went to the CRC check and it would come back " Not Responding"  ended up doing a full clear and key set up. Went back to the CRC check, it did it's thing and now it works like it should. Retraced my steps with the other 3 and all was good with them also.  I'm sure all this has been posted before but I don't recall reading it.

I agree Buzz,
Running the Clear & Key chips does a great job of fixing lots of errors.
For some freaky reason, whenever a machine is transported or left alone for a long time -
it acts up when powered on again and brought back to life.
The Clear chips sets everything back to factory-like conditions.
Other times, the machine performs remarkably and acts like it was never turned off... :103-

Bunker   Most of the machines I seem to buy are all female, they require a awful lot of attention and don't put out much. (doesn't that sound like a ol girl you dated in your younger days)  :25- :25- :25- :25-
