Title: Noisy Fans (Shut em up!) Post by: Yoeddy1 on July 08, 2010, 04:38:20 AM Just a little fan factoid for the gang:
In my recently acquired Game King, I had a dried up squeaky 80mm fan in the top box that was driving me crazy. Many of you may already know this, but before you run out and buy a new fan to get rid of that irritating noise, a little drop of oil can work wonders for the ears. Here's what I did: 1. Remove fan. 2. Peel back the center decal/sticker covering the center shaft/spindle that the fan. 3. Put one drop of 3 in 1 oil (not WD-40) over the center shaft. BE CAREFUL not to get any oil on the PCB's!!! I have also used a drop of Synthetic motor oil and have had years of silence using this as well. 4. Manually turn the fans. 5. Wipe off any excess oil off of the fan housing. 6. Replace the decal/sticker. 7. Reinstall the fan. 8. Power up the machine. 9. Enjoy the silence. ;) Cheers, Jason Title: Re: Noisy Fans (Shut em up!) Since you aquired your machine I've learned quite a bit about the GK! Can't wait til I'm ready to find one. Should be sometime Sept/Oct. as we are closing on a house end of this month. Already have a bedroom (no basement :8-) designated as "The Slot Room". And a spot designated for a GK! :71- Keep the good info flowing! :89- Didn't know Probert had passed til I saw your avatar. A lot of memories watching him in a Wings uniform! Title: Re: Noisy Fans (Shut em up!) Post by: Yoeddy1 on July 08, 2010, 07:49:59 PM No problem. I just have this OCD to learn about things inside and out. More info to come in the GK boards.
Yeah, I'm still in shock about Bob Probert. He was my #1 sports hero of all time. In fact, I created and owned a big hockey fight website that I've since sold off, but it was done because of him (www.hockeyfighters.com (http://www.hockeyfighters.com)). I set up a Facebook page months ago for him...the comments are overwhelmingly cool. http://www.facebook.com/# (http://www.facebook.com/#)!/pages/Bob-Probert/56230592428 Thanks, Jason Good tip, thanks Jason. My favorites were Terry O'Reilly and Stan Jonathan of the Big Bad Bruins era in the 70's. Title: Re: Noisy Fans (Shut em up!)
