Title: Reel Strip tape, what to use
Post by: IFFV68 on July 12, 2010, 05:47:20 PM
What is the best way to put both ends of a reel strip together.
Does  anyone make such a product?

You can use a thin strip of double-sided scotch tape. Personally, I don't use anything unless the strips are unusually noisy or the gap is noticeable and bothers me, in which case I use the scotch tape.

I "snapped" my strips in and the groove in the wall of the reel holds it in place just fine

Scotch Poster Tape (Removable) Works good for me. Pull of what you need then cut in half lengthwise.

Double sided tape cut in half lengthwise.  I do agree with Stat, I only use it when the reels are noisy though, for the most part, I just "snap" them on.

IGT uses 3M No. 465 tape on their reel strips for those who want to know.

I noticed on my 5 reel Cleopatra that the strips don't have the notch and the reels don't have a real groove for them to snap into. What's the best way to line these up and keep them tight enough to not "slide" on the reel after lots of spins?

This is what I use.. Scotch Poster Tape... You can find it anywhere such as Walmart, Walgreens, office supply stores, etc. It is relatively inexpensive and it works really well. I cut the appropriate length strip into 3 thin pieces as you do not need much. It goes on and off very easliy as it has a peel off paper liner on one of the sticky sides.

I have a 2" roll that must be 20 years old, or it seems like I have had it forever.  Anyway, I originally bought it from an art supply store to mount photos with, but it's pretty permanent stuff so use it sparingly on the strips.  It holds tight with just a couple of 1/4" X 1/4" pieces and the strips can be changed out that way without damaging them.

A tiny drop of plumbing "Goop"...or bathroom caulking behind
the edge of the strip where it touches the reel basket.
I mean "tiny"...you want it just to hold but easy enough to just peel off
with your fingers should you decide to change strips later on.
