Title: S2000 Barcrest LED's
Post by: idylewild1 on July 16, 2010, 11:38:42 AM
Anyone know a source for the 13v solder in LED's that go in the top boxes. Thanks for any information.

This guy had some but don't know if they will work for you. He had some white ones.

Are you talking about the little chips they use on say the Money Mad Martians game?

Right ---- the soler on LED chips that are on the Martians and King Cash. Thanks

With the game turned on you'll need to check voltage on each side of the LED to ground to see if you have voltage there. Check a working one and a non-working one to see what it should be. You might have a bad resistor supplying that led. Is it just one LED here and there, or is it a patch of them in one area? Anyway, once you determine what the problem is, more help can be provided.

The rsistors check out and measure 180 ohms. The LEDS have 13 volts to ground on one side which would indicate the led is bad. If there is something else to check let me know or if you know where to order the LEDS please let me know that as well. Thanks for the help.

Good deal, glad you were able to confirm the problem. If you talk to Jim at Blueridge Slots he MIGHT be able to help you out. Or google "pc surface mount led". They're suppose to last damn near forever so they might be a little hard to find. By the way, if after running awhile you notice your topbox on the Martians game starts doing a funky light show while you're playing you'll need to mount a computer cooling fan in the middle on the back of the backplane where the cables plug in. There's a heat problem with a resistor or something that causes this and it's a simple fix. Just tap into the 13v supply on the harness right there

It's easy on that search,  All you gotta do is punch in igt,  Time newly listed and you will see.  He is a very good member here but a vendor/seller.  I could have answered his questions from the get --However I had been in search of barcrest stuff long before he knew what a barcrest was.  Not to say I have not been "Hoarding" Barcrest stuff but I aim to keep what I  have on the s-2000 side of it.  <<<<<<<<<B.  :148- :56-.

PWRSTROKE, Anyone ever been able to track down exactly what causes those Money Mad Martians topboxes to freak out like they do? For as little cooling as it takes to eleviate it I wouldn't think it would be to difficult if you had a schematic. I initially stopped it by blowing on the backplane where the control harness plugs in.

Here's a link to 50 pcs of blue SMT LEDs.>>>

Sorry...it's now a dead link...the bottom one is still good.

If you search around, you can find the white ones and other colors as well.
I have amber ones for a pinball modification and a topper repair I did last summer.
The slow boat from china is the way to go because it's dirt cheap.
Apply your search as "SMT LEDs" (Surface Mount" LEDs)

Here's a link for white ones>>>

I have a King Cash game as well I just got and there are several lights out, some right on the numbers, so it effects the appearance. The others are shadowed by the many other working leds so they are less noticeable. The resistor says 1800 on it and it say 180R on the board next to it, but I did a google search for 1800 resistors and nothing comes up. I see many on ebay that are 180ohm resistor smts but they are like 1/4 watt. How do I know what to replace them with and what about the smt led's?

There are 2 searches I found, that may be the right thing, but I was hoping someone who has replaced these before could verify these are correct before I spend $25 to toss them all in the trash.

I am not finding much of any repair manuals out there for these things. Appreciate anyones help.
Thanks

Well, here is a fun fact. I was testing some resistors of the bad bulbs to see if I could find any. I found that on one set of 4 bulbs that they were both fine, so with nothing to loose, I wanted to see more about the bulb. I poked it. It has a silicone center for the light to shine through. It has no glass cover. I got lucky and the first one I poked with the lead to the volt meter made it come on, the pair. So I tried the pair above, nothing on light B, but A was the one I needed to poke in the squishy eye. Now I have all my numbers lit up. It still has a good 50+ lights out, but appearance wise, it looks like they are all lit. So, for now, the game looks great. If anyone could assist in verifying the correct bulbs to replace, I'd appreciate it.

Poke yours and see if you can save a few as well. I marked with pencil which one needed poking in case by the time I get to replacing them, I'll know which of the 2 to replace since they aren't both bad.

If the surface mount resistor has 1800 marked on it then it's 180ohms.  180R is also another way to say 180 ohms.
In the 1st example the last digit is the multiplier.  In other words it tells you the number of zeros to add.  Ex. 151 would be: 150 ohms and 154 would be 150K.
If you have a caliper you can measure the length and width of the surface mount resister to determine it's size. Save you measurements and then google "SMT resister sizes."
Compare your measurements to the info on google.  You may have to write don the sizes and the google the specs for each size.

Hope this helps,
E

So as long as it is 180 ohm it should work? I don't need to worry so much about the wattage? I can't see any way to know what the current wattage is. The ones I am finding are 1.4 watt.

Wattage is determined by the package size. Example 1210= .25watt.   So, the answer is,  don't worry about wattage as long as you make sure that you have the correct package size for the resistor that you are replacing.

See the Surface Mount Resistors Size Chart at the following link: http://www.westfloridacomponents.com/surface-mount-resistor-sizes.html

Thanks,
E

SWEET SWEET SWEET!! These bulbs work perfect, http://www.ebay.com/itm/250448879587?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Easy to install, although they are surface mount, but they work and I can do it myself with very little soldering experience.
