Title: The Game Room 2010
Post by: Yoeddy1 on July 21, 2010, 05:11:46 AM
So about a year ago, I decided to "dabble" into the world of coin-operated machines.  I have always been a junkie of any game that could be operated by a coin...even since my childhood days in the video arcades.  In the land of potatoes, we don't see a lot of this kind of action, but thanks to the magic of Craigslist, this site, and the internet in general, my curiosity was broadened.  Anyway, I started out last year buying a very much NLG debated S+ Jackpot Jungle.  The guys were throwing up the red flags everywhere that it was boring, dated, etc...eventually, I learned that it did get old fast, but it was my first machine.  I cleaned it up and made it a diamond, although a polished turd is still a turd.   :97-  Then I found a dirty, nicotine/dirt ridden CEI Double-Up poker machine.  Bought it for cheap and spent months cleaning it up.  Then I sprayed the live monitor with Windex and blew up the board.  Luckily, dormi hooked me up and fixed it good as new.  It really is a nice machine.  The biggest score last year was my MAME cabinet.  This is a hobby I've followed for years and one of my biggest childhood dreams was realized.

Last year's experiences can be found here:
http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=4750.0 (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=4750.0)

One year later, many of you guys have become great friends and have really helped me out along the way in terms of troubleshooting and understanding what's hot and what's not.  The Jackpot Jungle has gone down the road and I'm still on the fence with my CEI poker machine, but it has been retired from the game room for the time being.  I have updated the games with an IGT Game King version 5.3 nickel machine, an IGT S2000 Red White & Blue Big Times Pay, and I still have my MAME arcade machine.  Between painting, polishing, and endless reading and tweaking, the games are getting close to being complete...at least for now.  ;)  Enjoy the videos below, and as always NLG, thanks for your help!

Jason

Yoeddy!
Those are great machines you've collected!
I'm happy you've found all of us here at NLG.
One of my childhood dreams was realized last year
when I found a pinball machine and fixed it up.
I play that thing in the garage every evening just about...lol
The funny thing I've found out about slots is that there's millions of titles/games to see.
There's several different types of gaming platforms as well.
That's what makes this hobby so fun to get into -
plus you make some buddies along the way too!

I would like to take this time to compliment you on your you tube post -very articulate accurate etc Nice collection of games !!
as far as the machines adding up in the house hold ??

from my alter ego --Dr  House -you have whats called slot machine hording ..its a common disease where one is not enough !! :25- :25- :25- :25- :25-

I believe tonight on NBC news network -there will be a woman who has 250 cats in her house and a few dogs.. its called animal hording
a good  show to watch ?? if i am correct on dates ..

I myself wont comment on the number of slots -arcade games -prototypes -cherry masters -touch screen games -etc etc etc
that I would take any day before 250 cats .. my games can be on demo mode to token mode etc .. no cat food or dog food for them or odor !!
nice collection --it wont stop there re-post next year lol i bet it grows by 8 more machines ...

I don't know..... the smell of 250 unshopped machines might be just as strong as cat urine.....

Before I gutted and cleaned out my CEI machine, this thing wasn't allowed in my house.  Since the interior walls and structure of the machine was all wood, you can imagine.  I used my air compressor, Simple Green, lacquer thinner, Lysol, air fresheners, an ozonator, 3 coats of black paint, Windex, and finally, the machine was cleared for entry into the house.  However, the smell of urine makes my stomach turn...I'd probably go for the unshopped machines.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Nice quality games!
It's one thing to own them and it's another to tear them apart, clean, refurbish, and then play them!

Now, on the cats. There was nothing worse than the smell of a male cat that sprayed in my horse barn.  :47-
And those bad experiences have left me with a prejudice towards cats. Not to mention the carnage that took place under the bird feeder. Found that a hot wire fence mounted three inches off the ground was very effective. Especially when a feline decided to spray it.  :97-  (Sorry cat lovers)

Thought I was done with that smell when I moved out here in the desert of Nevada. The Creosote bush, when wet, smells like a hundred male cats that just sprayed!!!  :47- :47- :47- :47-
The most awful smell ever! Good thing it rains only about twice a year.  :138-

:212- :212- :212- :212- :212-   My Uncle told me the best way to get a new septic system working was to kill a cat and toss it into the empty tank. I don't know if he did or didn't, all I can say is, mine hasn't been pumped in 19years !!!

If his septic tank is big enough for me to come to periscope depth in on the last submarine that I was on (SSBN-731) then I doubt even the likes of Buzz are full of enough "crap" to fill it in 19 years or longer. You can't imagine the turning radius of those things!  Thank God that those things don't have windows as I don't want to see the poor cat swimming around in it all !!! :200- :200- :200- :208- :208- :208-

Donnie, I hope that mental picture gave you enough of a laugh!!! You should ask the hospital if they give you frequent flier miles! :25- :58-

CaptainHappy :95-

P.S. Air was not the problem, food for the humans was the problem! (Notice that I did not say fresh air!!)  :200- :200- :200-

Well, I finally cleared out the last of last year's game room remnants...the CEI poker machine.  I was so close to keeping it because it really was a cool old classic machine, but when the guy that bought it offered me asking price, my Red White & Blue ended up not costing me a dime after it all washed out.  I wish I could make deals like that all the time.  ;)
