Title: Won't accept coins
Post by: rjpohl on November 07, 2008, 07:20:08 PM
I have a Bally E-1113-31 that powers up but will not accept coins.  The battery reads 2.7 volts (not sure if this too low or not).  I didn't see any loose wires or blown fuses.  Is the 2.7 volts low enough to cause not to accept coins?  I believe  a "7" is in the first digit of the top display.
as always thanks for all the help!

Hello!

Ummmm - that's a Universal machine...not a Bally.   :88-

ooops!

Here's the right pictures of the Bally.  I'm not sure how to delete the one of the Universal.

RJPOHL,

I deleted the pictures for you. If you ever want to do it yourself it is easy. You would hit the modify button on the message in question. THis will bring up an editing screen. In it you can change the text of the message, add formatting, add or remove pictures, etc. To remove your pictures you would just uncheck them where there are listed towards the bottom. At the same tim you can add the other pictures just like you did for the first ones.

Let us know if you have questions. Hope this helps.

Regards,

the 7 usually means a bad cmos (5101) or bad battery. if it is an E1000 the battery will be on a ram board that is "stacked" onto the main mpu board. try "wiggling" the ram board by grasping the small board by the edges - with the power on - watch and see if you have any change of the win meter. If not - the connectors on the ram board may be bad - also try reseating the 5101 cmos on the ram board - and lastly the P1 prom can cause a 7 error.

the battery is mounted on the board on the left side wall, you can see it in picture #2.  It reads 2.7 volts, I guess I'll start by replacing it.  Is this a E1000 machine?  How can you tell if the P1 prom is causing the problem?
If it is a bad CMOS 5101 what is the fix?

thanks

its not the battery - reseat the P1 and the CMOS (5101s).  if no change - take the P1 out and power up the game - if you get 654321 flashing - then you have a bad P1 or bad P1 socket. If you still get the 7 - then most likely you have a bad cmos or cmos socket. Also disconnect the ribbon cable going from the MPU to the IO - see if you still get the 7

I removed the ram board, the 5101s and reseated them, it's now taking coins, needs a few bulbs but I think it's good to go.
thanks Barry and Karma to you

Problems again.
Will usually take the first coin, pull arm, reels spin and stop as they should.  The coil that part of the coin acceptor drops out, the diverter flap drops open, the insert coin light goes off (will not accept quarters).  after clearing the tilt it may take a few coins before tilting again.  Please note that it will accept 4 coins (4 coin machine) every time.  The problem comes after the arm is pulled.
Any ideals on what to try now??

what error code to you get?  sounds like you have a bad reel reader though. If a reader is bad - the game won't finish - hence won't accept another coin.  do the 5 test to check the readers.

When the machine goes into tilt "59" flashes on far left of display.
I tried to do the reel reader test and the display read 1 c 3 3, I didn't know how to advance reels 1 position and also don't know number codes are.  What does a c or 3 stand for.  Is there a list of codes for each symbol.

thanks for your help
Bob

the 59 is a bad hopper coin count switch - check the cherry switch at the top rear of the hopper - it may be stuck - blade of the switch should make a clicking noise as you move it up and down.  run a 4 test to dispense 10 coins.   The 5 test - small o = cherry 3 - is a bell

quarter were stuck behind knife, remover and then reels kept spinning, tilt code 41.  I switched the 1 and 2 reel readers to see if the problem followed the reader.  After switching it seems to be working fine.   Ran about 50 quarters through it with no problems.  Maybe it was a bad connection or alignment issue.

thanks and Good Karma to Barry

My bubble been busted again.
I went out and played the slot for a few minutes longer and now the first reel is stopping but the 2nd and 3rd don't.   I moved the reel reader from 1 to 2 earlier so am I right to believe it is a bad reel reader?  If so where can I get one and how much is it?

if the symptom moved with the reader - then the reader is bad - we repair them.  send me an email and will advise how much.
