Title: Reel Touch RAM error
Post by: jdkmunch on August 14, 2010, 04:45:07 PM
More and more frequently when I turn on the machine I get a RAM error.   If I turn the jackpot key it displays that non critical information is lost.  I open and close the door and the game is good to play.

Is this error on the MPU and would replacing the board get rid of the issue?

You need to replace the CMOS battery on the MPU.
It is a small button cell BR2330 3V 255mAh with solder tabs
I believe Jim of Blue Ridge Slots has them.
If he does not, you can get one from Mouser or Newark, make sure you get one with solder tabs

I'll see if I can get my hands on one for replacement.  What's crazy is the sound the machine makes when it throws this error.  It sounds like the cop sirens.

I wonder which batteries lasted longer, your Bally S6000 or the reel touch?  You haven't had the reel touch for too long.

Just an observation.  The same sirens on IGT video machines, iGames etc.

Thanks,
Wayne

It's true - I've had a rash of dead batteries lately.  I just hope that the RAM error is cured by replacing the battery.  It's been bothering me for quite a while now.    For both machines it's the first time replacing the batteries.  Who knows how long they've been in the boards.

Wayne do you have a signature that adds

sometimes I just type :

Other times it's :

Misspelling thanks has to be my most frequent typo. I usually check and correct that though.

I believe your bally was a 2003 or older machine.

Thanks,
Wayne

Just replaced the battery and it worked like a charm.  No more RAM Error.  Thank you all -  I would have never guessed the battery.   I would have expected  a battery low tilt.

I wish Bally would let you swap out a battery like IGT.  No need for a clear chip.  Just turn the jackpot key then push the magic white button for 2-3 seconds and your good to go!
