Kit # 101 Installation Instructions This monitor repair kit is designed for the Electrohome G07-CBO 19 inch color monitor. Be sure to check that all the parts are included in the kit: 1 1 uF @ 50V or 63V 1 2200 uF @ 25V 1 4.7 uF 0 50V 1 1 uF @ 250V 1 4.7 uF @63Vor 100V 1 3.3 uF @ 160V 1 10 uF @50V 2 10 uF 0 250V 1 33 uF @25V 1 47 uF @ 200V 3 100 uF @ 16V 1 100 uF @ 160V 2 220 uF @ 16V Be sure to install all the parts on the monitor even though many of the original parts seem to be working fine. Age, humidity, and temperature will cause the value of electrolytic capacitors to change. Installing all of the parts will assure many more years of trouble free service. Each capacitor is polarized and can only be inserted in one direction. Watch the polarity markings on each capacitor. On the top side of the monitoriaard where each capacitor is located is a circle with a black dot on. one side. The black dot indicates where the negative (-) lead is to be inserted. Remove the shield over IC501 and install the following parts. C302 220 uF @ 16V C511' 47 uF @ 200V C403 100 uF @ 16V C517 100 uF @ 16V C407 4.7 uF @ 63V or 100V C518 220 uF @ 16V C408 4.7 uF @ 50V C521 2200 uF @ 25V C411 100 uF @ 160V C523 1 uF 0 250V C412 3.3 uF @ 160V C701 100 uF @ 16V C504 1 uF @ 50V or 63V C905 10 uF @ 250V C506 33 uF @ 25V C107 10 uF @ 250V - Neck Board IMPORTANT! Be sure to install the negative lead of C302 into the hole with the black dot shown on the top side of the chassis. The (+) sign on the bottom side of C302 is marked incorrectly. The last step is to install a sync modification which prevents a horizontal curl. This step is optional. On the monitor board, replace C303 with the 10uF 0 50V capacitor with the positive lead connected to the collector of X305. Then replace C501 with the capacitor taken from space C303. Watch the polarity markings on each capacitor. On the top side of the monitor board where each capacitor is located is a circle with a plus sign next to one of the holes. The plus sign indicates where the positive (+) lead of each capacitor is to be inserted. It is possible for a failure on the game logic board to cause the monitor to fail. There is a simple test to find out if the game board caused the monitor to fail. To perform the test you will need a voltmeter. Set the voltmeter on the DC voltage scale and measure the voltage on the lead of R600 and R700 which is connected to the yellow and orange respectively. The correct voltage should be around zero volts DC but fluctuate because of the changing deflection signal. If the measured voltage is between 5 and 15 volts positive or negative DC then check the X and Y amplifiers on the game board. Also check for broken potentiometers on the logic board. It is very important to resolder all connectors soldered to the circuit boards. Loose connections commonly develope because plugs are removed and plugged back. The following parts are both on the deflection and high voltage boards. Unplug the game and replace the following parts. Such a well read topic..........does the company supplying these kits have a web site, or does anyone else know of suppliers of such kits for monitors. Where I am located I am spending a fortune on cap's etc. etc. also just invested +/-$300 on a cap wizard. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Take a look at the first post in this thread it lists contact information for zanen electronics a couple of lines down and a listing of monitor kits available. It is pretty easy to look right past it since so much is listed. I called them and they were helpful in trying to find out what I need. I think the guy's name was Jim, but I am not sure... He really knew what he was talking about and seemed to be a monitor expert. If you ask the nice lady who answers the telephone about who to talk to regarding Monitor Cap Kits she should send you to the right guy. I also saw a reference to them here: Mark Title: Re: Monitor Cap Kits Post by: racergiant on September 16, 2008, 06:15:53 AM By hotslot101 -

An ESR meter is a great investment though you can get one cheaper then the Cap Wizard. I will look up the source and post it here. Title: Re: Monitor Cap Kits Post by: racergiant on September 16, 2008, 06:16:41 AM By Joeylc -

I agree that this is a great post! The last cap kit I got was from Happ, I don't mind Happ since they are local to me and I can pick-up, I don't like the minimum order price. I find myself buying a couple extra bottles of Novus that I don't need to round out the order. If Zanen gets a website going, I'd be looking at them as a new source. I got a cap kit from them last year OK. When I get home from work I'll see if I've still got the invoice indoors with their contact details on incase they have changed. Title: Re: Monitor Cap Kits Post by: racergiant on September 16, 2008, 06:21:47 AM By channelmanaic -

I don't have the invoice anymore to check. It test ESR, Value, Leakage, and Dielectric Absorption. Any Part of a cap can cause failure in a monitor or power supply.
Title: Re: Monitor Cap Kits Post by: KirkLasVegas on October 06, 2008, 03:30:20 AM ESR meters are good, but to be honest...for all the hassle of pulling the board, it's cheaper and less hassle to "Shotgun" the entire board and replace suspected caps. ones that are OK today, might not last another year or so. NEW ones are good for another 10 years.
As Electrolytics dry out, they are far below the rated capacitance (remember the 80/20 rule). It actually takes LESS time to replace it, then to test it. :88- If you want to "Biopsy" the caps after you yank them out, it will tell ya if you hit the nail on the head. Of course, look for bulging endcaps, discoloration of the plastic cover is a good idea. PLEASE REMEMBER ***SAFETY FIRST*** A lot of monitors have their power supply tied directly to the AC mains. use ONE hand at a time or better yet a isolation transformer!! TRUST NOTHING! All it takes is a miswire of the black/white connector. It will "bite you" or burn the ground lead off your test gear.A portable GFI outlet is a good idea too. While 120 volts usually wont kill you, it will spoil your day, destroy test gear.. Just my 2 cents, your mileage will vary :89- Kirk Title: Re: Monitor Cap Kits Post by: monitorman on October 06, 2008, 02:50:33 PM GOOD POINT BUT THIS IS THE ONLY INDUSTRY THAT TEACHES SHOTGUNNING MONITORS AND BOARDS TO PEOPLE THAT SHOULD NOT HOLD A SOLDERING IRON. I SEE WAY TO MANY BOARDS TOSTED BY SHOT GUNNERS.
I WENT TO ONE OF THE TECH FEST AND LISTEN TO RANDY FROMM (HE A GREAT GUY) TELL THE CLASS SHOTGUN THOSE CAP AND MONITORS AND AFTER CLASS A FEW OF THEM LEAVE AND SAY THEY CAN FIX IT ALL. THAY CAN'T SOLDER AND BURN UP MORE BOARDS THEN WHAT SHOT GUNNING IS WORTH. PLUS SHOT GUNNING DOSE NOT ALWAYS FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEN YOU WASTED ALL THAT TIME AND PARTS. BUT WAIT MOST OF THE CASINO'S DON'T PAY VERY GOOD FOR SHOT GUNNERS. CHEEP PEOPLE TO ATEMP CHEEP FIXES. THIS IS HOW I FEEL. SHOT GUNNERS MAKE BETWEEN 8 TO 16 DOLLARS HOUR. TECHS MAKE 24 TO 50+ DOLLARS AN HOUR IN THIS INDUSTRY. I FIX THE SHOTGUNNER'S ERRORS. SHOT GUNNERS SECURE MY JOB, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS AND THANKS. |
