Title: Text box jumps and hides last line when it's full - why?
Post by: wrkey on September 12, 2010, 07:38:00 PM
When I am typing into the New/reply to post box I have a problem once I fill up the box.  For some reason the box will 'self center' showing just the text in the middle of box with the top and bottom portions missing.  Thus as I type it "jumps" up with every letter and then re-centers and repeats ad nauseum.  I'm not sure if this is a problem with my profile setting, my browser setting or maybe I'm just typing too much?????

Anyone else have the problem and/or know how to stop it?

Thanks,

Rusty

I copied the first few chapters of war and peace and pasted it in the reply window and found no problems. What browser do you use and are you talking about the box that pops up when you actually click reply or the quick reply box at the bottom of every post?

Rusty, it's because you're using IE. I've experienced the same issue with long posts when using Exploder. Try Firefox.  :88- :89-

IE7 wasn't too bad, but I've had nothing but problems with IE8. I switched to Firefox during the IE7 era and really don't use IE much anymore, with a few necessary exceptions. I've heard good things about Chrome and liked what I saw of it, buy my computer is old and doesn't really have the computing power of newer machines, so I never installed it.

I am running IE 8 and don't really want to change browsers.   I don't have this problem with other forums such as PachiTalk.   Hmmmm..

I guess I'll just type into Notepad and copy/paste it into the text box.

Allow me to solve your problems!

Click the "compatibility view" button to the right of the address bar.

Problem solved.

If you encounter a similar issue on other websites, that's also the solution.  It makes IE8 display the website like IE7 would.

Yep!   that did it!   However, you better hit that button prior to typing anything thing in.. cause if you hit the button after you have the text put in.. it refreshes the screen and you lose the text.

Does this 'compatibility' mode stay from visit to visit... or should I just be in the habit of pressing the button if I know I'm gonna be long winded?

It was painful but I opened IE8....

You may click tools, compatibly options and add domains there or tick the box at the bottom to display all websites in compatibility mode

Now I must go recover from the traumatic IE8 experience

Yes, it does.  In the words of Ron Popeil, "Set it, and forget it."  Unless you change all of your Internet settings back to defaults, it should remember and always display NLG in the compatibility mode.
