Title: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: Yoeddy1 on September 21, 2010, 12:21:21 AM I love music...always have, always will. All kinds. When it comes to concerts though, I have to REALLY like their music to shell out the money to attend a show. It's agonizing for me to spend the money to go to a concert for three hours and recognize only one or two songs during the entire show.
Anyway, for me, the best concert that I've ever experienced both from a music perspective and the visuals was Pink Floyd. I saw them up in Vancouver B.C. and it was the most amazing show I had ever experienced in my life. Three plus solid hours of nothing but Floyd. They played the entire album of Dark Side of the Moon!!! Glad I was able to experience this before Rick Wright passed away, although it would have been epic to see them before Roger Waters left the band. Anyway, not sure if there are any PF fans out here, but it was a huge experience for me. How bout you guys? Thanks, Jason Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: Bettor Slots on September 21, 2010, 12:29:57 AM I "saw" Floyd in '87 or maybe it was '88. Truth is from about 3 hours before the concert until about noon the next day....I don't remember a damn thing.

We rode a bus up there and back...at least I think we did.

+1 I saw Pink Floyd's Division Bell tour in 1994 - hands down the best concert I have ever been to and I am not even a big Floyd fan. Dan #2 Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: dale on September 21, 2010, 01:39:24 AM Led Zeppelin 1972 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.
Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: brichter on September 21, 2010, 01:42:54 AM Too many to pick a "best" concert, but taking my daughter to her first (Sammy Hagar) was a good experience. :136-
California World Music Festival in April 79 was a great experience (2 days) but my motorcycle was picked up and loaded into the back of a truck from where it was parked in front of the LAPD station (in full view of the desk sergeant :125- :125-), they found it stripped of Angeles Crest 6 months later. :25- I was also a fixture at the Days on the Green from 1974 to 1979, some I remember, some I don't. :5- :200- Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: brichter on September 21, 2010, 01:43:40 AM Led Zeppelin 1972 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. I was a bit too young for that one, but not by much... :72- :72- Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: Karaoke Mike on September 21, 2010, 01:48:09 AM I have Ride the Lightning in my truck this week, Kill Em' All was in last week. I still listen to the old school Metal. After listening to crappy singers all weekend, I really appr. the 80's hairbands.
Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: Simon Barsinister on September 21, 2010, 02:06:57 AM Seeing Roger Waters doing 'The Wall' in its entirety this Thursday night in Chicago, 4th row, can't wait!! A guy that went to my high school is singing all of David Gilmour's parts. Small world eh?
Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: jay on September 21, 2010, 03:48:29 AM I didn't actually see the concert ......
It was the Eagles playing the Hotel California Tour at McMahn stadium in Calgary in the summer 1978 - it was a live outdoor concert (the last that Calgary ever had at that venue) as the whole city enjoyed the concert that evening. I was 12 at the time and me and my buddies layed out in grass in the front lawn and took in every note. Life didn't get much better than that. I would have to say Pink Floyd I love David Gilmore and the man is flawless in concert the light show is amazing like no other. I have seen the Stones,Sabbath with and without Ozzy,Rush, and many of the other top acts sorta a blurr now but I do still have all the concert stubs somewhere. Another great show in the 80's was Monsters of rock tour with Van Halen,Scorpions,Metallica,Kingdom Come,Dokken, and a few others. I also did a short stint as a guitar tech for The Outlaws which turned into many shows with Syknyrd,Molly Hatchet,38 and Marshall Tucker Southern Rock is by far my favorite to this day. I still have a lot of friends in that Southern Rock circle to this day well the people that are alive so anytime those bands are around I get VIP treatment. Oh that reminds me of one of the first shows I tech'd at it was a huge show in Ohio late 80's with SteppenWolf,Outlaws,38,Molly Hatchet,Fabulous T-Birds,Foghat anyway I will never forget standing on the stage looking into a sea of people while SteppenWolf played The Pusher for a good half hour, that tune was my favorite by them. The backstage area was trailer's with band names above the door with a food court tent set up in the middle,I had lunch with the late Danny Joe Brown of Hatchet and a few other players. I never saw Led Zep but I did see Kiss at age 13 first concert in my life. So it's really hard to say after all that being spoiled it that scene I just know music is not what it was and never will be today you would be hard pressed to hear a good guitar solo in a new song being a guitar player since age 8 I puke when I listen to the radio these days. Tim Just remember another one Outdoor show with Skynyrd,Ted Nugent,Deep Purple with Ian Gillan singing No Richie Blackmore,Steve Morse was on guitar but I did have backstage for the show as a guest of Skynyrd at the time Hughie Thomasson was playing for them and was a good friend of mine from the Outlaws days he has since passed. Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: Bettor Slots on September 21, 2010, 02:41:05 PM Best concert I ever saw / enjoyed was Santana. No fancy lights to distract your brain from hearing what you came for...the music. The guy can jamb a guitar like only a few others can, Page, Hendrix, and puts so much emotion behind it. If the average concert is 2 hours or less....this guy jambed for almost 4 hours...didn't seem to care about getting back to the hotel and counting the money....you could tell he just loved being out there playing the music.

Last time I saw him (20th anniversary/holiday party at work), he was onstage for 70 minutes, and spent a lot of time bashing Bush instead of playing. I saw him before, back in high school, and he overplayed, the stadium folks had to just about drag them off the stage.
Wound up being a not-so-good experience wrt Santana, but the band that played before him (Five for Fighting) was better than anyone expected, so it was a good experience in toto. I guess we all have to slow down some with age. When I saw him it was like you said when you saw him in back in high school....just one long party that you never wanted to end....and neither did he. He was playing in the Miami Marine Stadium. Went down by boat, but you could only get so close to the floating stage. Anchored the boat and climbed into inner tubes pulling a cooler filled with beer. We then paddled the tube right up to the front of the stage. No standing in line at restrooms when your drinking beer floating in an inner tube. :134- :154- :151- :222- :127- :86- :252- I've been to many concerts on and off duty, mostly back stage. But this one was the BEST.... :89- Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: brichter on September 22, 2010, 02:14:53 AM No standing in line at restrooms when your drinking beer floating in an inner tube. :134- :154- :151- :222- :127- :86- :252- Ewwww, too much information there... :72- Title: Re: Best concert (s) you've ever been to Post by: brichter on September 22, 2010, 02:29:43 AM You ever catch this girl Desiree Basset... ONLY 15 YEARS OLD...can't wait to hear her when she's 21 She flat gets with it. :3- You listen to all the hip hop crap the kids listen to these days and think we're doomed musically, then you see something like that and faith is restored! :89- Here's another young female phenom, she's rocked the bass for the likes of Jeff Beck, The Allman Brothers, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea, just to name a few! She started on guitar at 14, switched to the bass at 17. She's 23 now, was 20 when she played this with Jeff (in 2007, when she played with all these others I named). Not bad for 3 years on the guitar then 3 years on the bass. :131- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC02wGj5gPw&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC02wGj5gPw&feature=related) fast forward to 1:25 if you're in a hurry... |
