Title: problems after changing from 4 reel to 3 reel
Post by: rjpohl on November 17, 2008, 08:14:53 PM
the number 1 reel will not stop in proper location.  I have performed the reel strip test (5) several times.  I changed the reel wiring harness from a know working 3 reel machine, I have tried several reels.  The reel strips match physical reel strip per SS7906.  Is the MPU board different from a 3 to 4 reel?

Reels 2 and 3 stop properly

thanks in advance

The MPU board is the same for a 3 or 4 reel.

This is a 3 reel plus bonus reel game?  If so, are you changing out the reel harness to a standard 3 reel?  Also, there is a jumper on the cabinet I/O that must be removed when going back to 3 reel.

Yea,  That should do it,  I had that problem as well-Not that it was a problem with all this good info sharing here.  :89-  (I caught the post late or would have keyed in sooner).  Jeff told me about the jumper on i/o a while back-Thanks again Jeff.  I strongly Think that all the 3,4-5 reel back-lit or non back-lit conversions all of us here have that "covered'-No problem - Then Jim sends a pic and even shows what the connector looks like!- He's been doing that for a long time so I gotta and have to give a K+ for the time spent and care.  Thanks to all-B.

S+ or S-2000?

I removed the jumper (located on door near hinge) but the first reel still stops in wrong location.  I've checked the reels strips a dozen times and I'm convinced they are positioned properly.
any other suggestions???

I think you removed the belly door switch jumper.
Close the main door and see if it detects the door closed.

The jumper for the reels is located near cabinet i/o attached to the MPU cover.
Cabinet I/O and its holder are about size of 3.5" disk drive, right below the reel shelf.

this is a S+ not S2000

If the jumper you removed was actually on the door.
Under the Change or call attendant switch.
That would still be the belly switch jumper, which is installed if there is no belly door switch.

Is the theme your installing like a red white & blue theme or similar that pays on 3 blanks?
if the game is a RWB type theme, that could cause the first reel to stop on the first symbol and not a blank.
Other possibility is you got a slant top reel basket on the first reel.

The game Cash-in In (clone of 5 line 5 times pay)

Maybe a few pictures might give us an idea what is going on.

I was thinking the same thing.  Easy enough to check ... just swap it with one of the other two reels.

I've used 3 different reel baskets, 2 different wiring harness, 2 different MPU boards.  The reel strips match the ss7906 physical reel positions.  I've finally moved the reel strip on the reel to make it stop at the correct position.  I had to move the strip several inches but it seems to be paying  off correctly now.  I'd still like to know how to correct the right way.
Thanks for ally your help and suggestions

Hi Bob,
Did you check if the optics are located the same for this reel as for the other two?  Did you try the complete reel assembly?  as CommTech said, you can switch the whole assembly from the next reel (2)

Good luck,
Wayne

Well, I must admit I made a Huge mistake on this post as I thought it was a S-2000 being discussed.  My apoligies.   :25-.  My opinion of S-+ was great a long  long  time ago.  I cannot play them at all after playing S-2000 and above-Just maybey me though.  They will be classic collector games in the future for sure.  Just think, The S-2000 is getting pretty old also!!.  Thanks and Sorry for my assumption on the post-B.

Here's my question...which SS and SP proms are installed in the board?...why?

Because on certain games that have pays if you have blanks  -  the 1st reel will stop above the spot where the reel strips meet. Reels 2 and 3 will stop on the seam where the reel strips come together on the reel.

This may explain why the reels don't "line up" when you turn the machine on.
However, this only happens after a game change or if the ram is cleared.

The 2 Reel Strips that are the same go on #1 and #2, the odd reel strip goes on #3.

IGT shows it as A A B

The game Cash-in In (clone of 5 line 5 times pay)

If it's a 5-line game, the first reel will not line up at the same position as the other reels when you first power it up after a game change, as foster and stayouttadabunker mentioned.  If having all three reels line up would cause a "winning" combination to be displayed (which, according to your reel strip listing, it would (three triple bars on line 3)), the first reel will be offset.  It should, however, play and pay correctly.

You said that you moved the reel strip and it seems to be working correctly.  Can you play a hundred or so games and make sure that it's right - I suspect it may not be.

Speaking from Left Field......as I don't have one of these machines.....

On the S+ you could step through all the winning combinations as one of the self test.  I think it is called a reel strip test. Its been a while.....
I would be surprized if there was not something like this on the S2000....... if you step through all of the winning combos then its right or its wrong....There is no middle ground.
The only way I could see that this would not be right is if the basket is slipping on the stepper spindle and I think that kind of issue would be a bit obvious.

No chance that one of these reels mechs are from a slant ? as the nub is in a different spot on the basket.

He would now have to enter the "Self Test Mode" using the test switch and run option<4>"Pay Table Test" right?
Or would he have run option<5>"Reel Strip Test"?

ADD>>OOps. You must of posted while I was typing Jay...

I'm with Jay, the first reel might be a slant top reel.  If you swap the reel assembly from reel #2 around, does the 1st reel stop in the right spot?

Actually one of my first machine purchases had just the reverse issue.......

I had one reel that would give me mystery pays, the guys who were helping me out told me to check the reel for a S/T marking on it
I did this. Ended up taking 12 digital photos from all angles to prove it did not have S/T anywhere on it. Made me feel like a dolt cause I felt that I didn't know where to look for this S/T.....that just had to be there.....

Everyone was ripping out their hair on this one.....other than offsetting the reel strip nothing else was fixing this problem......
6months later after my first game change - everything was sort of working but none of my pays were lining up just right in the window.....

Guess what I found......the other two reels had S/T on them.....and only the off-reel was correct.....  :25- Dooh !

The reel was marked S/T, I never knew there was a difference and I've never had a slant top.  Thanks for all that helped on this.  After getting the reels to stop properly it played out for a spin or 2 then a 49 error code.  I couldn't get it to clear so I did a full ram clear.  After pressing button to get 61-1 I shit the door bu I can't get the 61-1 to clear.  I guess I'll research other topics and if all falls start another one.

Did you turn JP key after closing the door?

Title: Re: problems after changing from 4 reel to 3 reel
Post by: rjpohl on November 20, 2008, 08:58:12 PM
yes, it would clear the 49 error and replace it with other numbers, don't remember what they were.

Bob, he means with the 61- 1 error, close the door turn the key(61-5 ? 61-2 ?), (you may have to turn the key twice), then open the door and press the test button.

If it doesn't clear the 61-1 then the cash box door is open or the belly door.  Or the optics are bad.

Good luck,
Wayne

I was able to get the 61-1 cleared, I pulled board, replaced with board from working machine, started nad cleared 61 codes as usual, then re-installed the original board and then I was able to cllear the 61-1.
