Title: Movies...
Post by: Yoeddy1 on October 10, 2010, 12:03:15 AM
Just curious...

Which movies had an impact on your life, for whatever reason.

Saving Private Ryan...I think all kids today should be required to watch this in school.  Everytime I see it, it has a lot of impact...especially the opening scene on Omaha Beach.  One of the best movies of all time.

Alien...this trailer scared me to death as a kid, and to this day, it still does.  The high pitched while is freaky as hell.  Scary movies in the 70's and 80's were much more frightening than today's movies.

As a child and young adult I've always watched horror movies.. which probably explains why I'm a serial killer now

Night of the Living Dead.

I watched it on Creature Features with Bob Wilkins (Stat may remember this show as he''s from the Bay Area) when I was 9, and I slept with my door open and the hall light on for 3 weeks. :58- :58- :58- :58-

Been hooked on horror flicks ever since.... :89- :89- :89- :71- :71-

Bob Wilkins and his ever-present cigar! I used to love watching Creature Features. It was on Channel 2, "KTVU, Oakland, San Francisco." I met him at a large Star Trek convention in the summer of 1976, although I didn't get to talk with him.

I also met Bobby Picket, who put out Monster Mash and Star Drek, which he was selling at the convention, and had a chance to talk with him for a while. Bobby was a really nice guy.

It was also at that convention that they announced two new movies to be released in 1977: Wizards... ... ... and Star Wars! They were selling those black teaser posters that read, "Coming to Your Galaxy Next Summer" for only $10 each, and stupid me didn't buy any. A couple of years later they were selling for over $200. :25-

One of the horror movies that I saw when I was a child that left an impression was "Dr. Terror's House of Horrors" with Peter Cushing.

It's not really that good of a film, but as a child I couldn't forget the segment with the dismembered hand crawling around going after the guy who caused it to be severed. At one point the guy is driving at night in a storm and the hand stops the windshield wipers and he crashes. I also remembered how each person asked Dr. Terror for an alternative future, and he turned over the death card every time. I remember thinking that the last three (or even four) people were idiots to ask after seeing what the first guy got. :25-

It was one of two movies I saw as a child that I remembered fragments of as an adult, but that I could not remember the name of. The other was a Science Fiction film from the cold war era (1957) called "The 27th Day." All I could remember of that film were the Lucite clam shells with pills in them that could be used to destroy mankind or save us. I was far too young to understand the anti-communist message in the film. It also portrayed women as incapable, but that was par for the course back in those days.

It took me over 20 years to find out the names of those movies, and I found both titles by sheer luck. After viewing them as an adult, it turned out that The 27th Day wasn't that bad if one forgave the 1950's stereotyped propaganda. The ending was contrived and unexplained, but the film was much better than most of the horrible Sci Fi Hollywood put out in those days.

Of course, it could never compete with Forbidden Planet.

"Circle Of Fear" scared the crap outta me and my friends as we were
watching the episode on the back porch, outside in plain daylight!
Yes, we were only kids at the time and I don't remember why the
T.V. was on the back porch...lol...but I'll never forget it when the little doll rolled her eyes.

Your right these Horror movies of today are nothing like they were back in the day. Too me there just dumb and I have no desire to go see them. As a kid that's all I use to watch, but today the high budget that these movies have they over think things to much. I feel these movies from years ago didn't have the money as today's hollywood and they used every penny they had to make the best fright flick they could.

The one that got me me when I was younger was "I spit on your Grave" lol

That was the whole reason behind my post making sure that everyone knew that the offending post was the FORMER #7, so that noone thought it was you! You are fine, mistaken identity as your number happened to match the Killer's number!  :208- :208- :208-
