Title: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 20, 2008, 11:12:20 PM I acquired a Spectrum II about a year or so ago from ebay.
I recently bought a harness from Idesign, who is a great help. Thanks I set up the stand alone progressive stuff in the key chip menu as well. I just want some additional thoughts on what to do next. It did have a couple blown fuses. I replaced them. Spectrum came up scrolling in Red NO DATA. Bought a replacement driver board. The Flash chip was blank so I transferred the flash chip from the board I had I still get The NO DATA message. If I pull the flash chip it displays BAD PGM on the display. What I want to know from those that have working spectrums. Should the machine see it in the Test Menu - Netplex auto config? Should it show up in Version Accounting as well? I do not want to let the magic :98- out of my machine or Spectrum II I know the machine and spectrum are connected the spectrum blanks out everytime I do the netplex auto-config. I may need a good programmed flash chip. I can program the chip that came with the new driver. Machine is running SG000363, base SB001000, VS011GX1, SS reel chip, MMLII, DSV 42. It wasn't this hard getting my Cham II+ working on either machine. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: PWRSTROKE on November 21, 2008, 12:34:05 AM What theme is this the numbers sound familar? (without me looking them up) :103-.
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Brianzz on November 21, 2008, 12:55:43 AM SG000363 is Fort Knox?
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 21, 2008, 01:09:55 AM SG 363 is game can run many base chips.
DSV 42 is generic sound SIMM. SB 001000 is coded to instruct the game chip use the SS chip installed in U17. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: PWRSTROKE on November 21, 2008, 01:16:48 AM Well, I know all that Unfortunatly I Cannot help since you will not dis-close the theme and what you are trying to do. It makes a diff. as far as the spectrum goes. Notice I had stated the numbers sounded familar. Thanks B.
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 21, 2008, 01:38:06 AM Theme is Triple Red White & Blue 2cm with a SS7542 in U17
Set the spectrum up as second level stand alone progressive. Cham II+ is handling the Top Award progressive. For the Triple RWB theme that would be a red 7 TS TS, TS white 7 TS, or TS TS blue 7 (TS is the Triple Star symbol) The machine and SS chip support the the second level progressive. I already hit it once testing things. I had it programmed lower than the actual standard award. It was like at $3500 with a $0.05 increment $1 denom with 5% increment. normal payout is 4500 for that theme at second level. The Cham II+ is programmed to start at $6000.00, $0.50 increment. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: PWRSTROKE on November 21, 2008, 01:51:41 AM I am going to sleep on all this because the data does not compile with me. What are you running? triple stars or triple RWB-S-2000? And You have the before mentioned chips in it? :103-. Talk later B.
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 21, 2008, 01:55:16 AM Triple RWB in a vision ready machine made in 1999.
I have heard it referred to as a Super Stepper as well. Basically a S2000, it just dont have the ears, or amp board, power dist board, etc. Uses the same mpu and motherboard. various other parts as the S2000. The Base chip SB001000 does not have theme information in it like other S2000 base chips. That information is read from the SS reel chip that is placed in U17. The Game chips are SG000363, Version chip is VS011GX1. The Top Award symbol is a star with some other details. This is why I call it a triple star symbol. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Brianzz on November 21, 2008, 04:54:46 AM I'm curious as to does S2000 support 2nd level progressive when using an S+ chip
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 21, 2008, 05:10:34 AM Yes, Yes, and Yes.
I already hit the second level award on the theme, stand alone was about $3500. I pushed the max bet to get it finish counting up the credits. The S2000 MPU just like the S+ MPU handles the standalone progressive. Just if the spectrum and machine are not communicating with each other it won't display it. But unlike the S+ the S2000 will show the current settings on the VFD while your are in the progressive setup menus. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: TZtech on November 21, 2008, 10:46:52 AM Hello Foster
Do a netplex auto config and then go to your program version display. If your spectrum is communacating it should come up on the list. If not check your netplex harness to your spectrum. Usually it goes through a distribution board in the topbox. Is the S2000 you are referring to the one with the LED display on the right side of the reels ? If so its could also be a S2000 I (For international). These were sold to the international market as upgrade to the S+ when those were discontinued. I am on my way to one of my sites to get one of these working so i can check for you and get back to you exactly which menu's and submenus to check for. Regards Ian Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: idesign on November 21, 2008, 11:44:35 AM To answer your question, YES the Spectrum version shows up on Version Accounting. PV13 will indicate it.
Just another thought, the controller board you bought needs to be matched up to the correct firmware chip. I sent you the PSR for 363 which lists which SD should be used with your controller. I don't think the chip you pulled out of the old board is compatible. Also, did you get the wires that were pulled out, back in correctly into the netplex connector? Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 21, 2008, 12:05:31 PM When I first got the machine I think it had SG000048, Base has always been SB001000, VS don't remember.
I upgraded it to SG000312, SG000362 and now it is SG000363 and VS011GX1. The LED player display is along the bottom right of the glass. No Power - netplex distribution board installed (future upgrade) I have tried the netplex auto config, over 10 times The display goes blank the RX and TX lights change patterns. RX flashes brighter and TX almost on solid, but still not seen by the machine. I did have 2 wires come loose, but they are back in place. Does anyone know if the 2 netplex ports on the motherboard are interchangeable with each other? The upper one goes to the door, and the lower one goes to the top box netplex connector. if I swap them the VFD refuses to show anything. I know there is a printer one as well. I figured it is printer only - no I don't have a printer either. SDF 100 is what I have. Even copied to the SST 29EE512 that came in the replacement board. The original SDF 100 may or may not be working correctly so that could be the issue. I need to compare my chip to known good SDF 100 chip. here is a recent picture showing location of VFD and LED player display. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: dpalmi on November 21, 2008, 01:30:08 PM Usually it goes through a distribution board in the topbox. Ian Ian, FYI - he had idesign make him a special cable so that the distribution board is not necessary....so no, he does not have one. Dan #2 Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: idesign on November 21, 2008, 01:32:00 PM Usually it goes through a distribution board in the topbox. Dan #2 ..........And just for the record I tested the cable out before I sent it to him. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 21, 2008, 01:42:32 PM I know the cable is good.
That is why I asked if the netplex ports on the M/B could be swapped or are they device or subsystem specific (other than the printer netplex port which I believe is only for the printer) Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: TZtech on November 21, 2008, 03:55:05 PM Hi
Ok - Thats not the S2000 I. As far as i know the netplex ports are interchangeable. My machines dont have Spectrums so unfortunately cant verify checksum for you on the flash. I know you have followed all these steps already but for future reference 4 IO Teste 4.3 Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: TZtech on November 21, 2008, 04:03:20 PM Ok Lets try again- Been a much to long day
4 IO Test 4.3 Netplex auto config After performing the auto config you can scroll between your devices and see status using your cash/credit button. Do you have a bv in your machines. Faulty BV's often cause strange netplex behaviour. Hope you get it working Regards Ian Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 21, 2008, 04:31:31 PM Well I decided to try something
I think I tried it last night but it would not work. Move upper box netplex from bottom netplex on M/B to printer it is working. Did the auto config now it is working I may leave alone or acquire another M/B in the future. But I think I have something wrong in the key chip progressive thing. cham II and the spectrum match values. :151- here are a few :147- :147- :147- for all of you. Thanks :3- :3- :3- Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 21, 2008, 09:28:39 PM Minor update.
Either the machine is only sending the value from the Cham II+ or it is sending the cham II+ and the stand alone amounts. I am seeing the cham II+ value on the spectrum but not the machine stand alone value. I wonder if one of those dip switches tell the controller which to display. information from progressive settings: 7.3.1 Controller Select 7.3.1.1 Game 1 7.3.1.1.1 $1 Game 1 : Denom $1 : Level 1 Link : Level 1 Game 1 : Denom $1 : Level 2 Stand Alone : Level 2 7.3.3 Stand Alone Setup 7.3.3.2 Level 2 Limit Amount : $0015000.00 Current Amount : $0004603.10 Add Percentage : 05.0000 % Base Amount : $0004500.00 yes I have tried a different base chip SB100003 I think Titanic and SS chips with my SB001000 Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 26, 2008, 09:04:10 AM I am beginning to think IGT didn't think anyone would use the large Spectrum II as a second level progressive.
No matter what I have tried. I can not get the Spectrum to display the second level progressive values. I even tried the following: I disabled both progressives in the 7.3 progressive. Played a few games. Then I reconfigured them. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: jay on November 26, 2008, 03:18:18 PM On the PSP software you use a Jackpot token followed by a 0, 1, 2 etc.
On the Older Cham1's driven by LED4s there is a phyical dip setting that can force the display only to show the Jackpot values. When this is set it doesn't show any of the messages etc. Is there perhaps a similar setting on the Supreme ? Idesign is the expert on Supremes - perhaps he has more insight. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 27, 2008, 05:12:08 AM It a IGT i960 Spectrum (S2000, I game, etc) I tried various config's of the S2000
I even tried having the Spectrum handle the Level one (top award) and let the cham II+ do the second level progressive. The S2000 did not like that all. Link Progressive down. I have temporarily disconnected the Spectrum until I can get some idea on what to try next I have a Triple Five Times Pay Base chip Game SG000363 Base SB100168 VFD VFD00007 Version VS011GX1 Sound DSV00042 I am beginning to think that my game chip is not sendign the right data to the spectrum. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: idesign on November 27, 2008, 12:35:09 PM Have you confirmed that the PAR sheet for your base chip supports 2 progressive levels? Also, it sounds like you are setting the machine for both stand alone progressive and link. Have you confirmed that the stepper game chip with support that type of setup without one overriding the other.
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on November 27, 2008, 07:56:27 PM The base chip supports a top and second level progressives.
I doubt that IGT would have made the Triple Five Times Pay glass with 2 removable award amounts if the base chip didn't suppot it. I even had a SB001000 with a SS chip and hit the second level one during some initial testing machine awarded the current standalone to the credit meter rounded up to the next dollar. The game chip when I go into the 7.3 shows the 4 settings for standalone they are different than the cham II+ and yes the current value changes as the machine is played. It just is not letting hte spectrum show it. I wish someone with a cham II+ and spectrum would try to do what I am doing and see if they can get it work. The S+ I also have didn't give me any trouble doing it, and I guess the SS chip for the Triple Diamond Deluxe supports it. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: jay on November 28, 2008, 04:14:07 AM It could be that the glass is for an S+ with 2 levels, and there is different glass for the S2000 platform.
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on December 13, 2008, 06:18:21 AM I have given up on having a 2 level progressive on the S2000, I will just let the Spectrum handle the Top Award
I have removed the Cham II+ (SA) for now. Now to find the changing color switch. I doubt it works on the SDF104 though. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: ChrisColumbus on March 23, 2009, 04:49:10 AM Foster did you get this to work or did you give up?
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: ChrisColumbus on March 23, 2009, 04:52:22 AM are you using standalone software on your CHAMII+
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on March 23, 2009, 05:17:16 AM Cham II+ SA 2.07
I gave up for now, working on 2 projects that will benefit NLG members. A windows version of software for Cham II+ (I can only develop for the Cham II+ since that is all I have) The other one is a surprise (All S+ And S2000/Vison owners will like it) I even tried swapping the roles (spectrum Top or level 1, Cham II+ level 2) machine thought the Cham II+ was no longer connected. I got a topper with a Spectrum so Cham II+ controller was moved to the S+ (replaced the Cham II+ in the S+ due to it rebooting all the time) I think the original Cham II+ in the S+ may have a issue getting too hot. cold solder joint, etc. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: ChrisColumbus on March 23, 2009, 05:33:03 AM wait wait wait... your post...
It a IGT i960 Spectrum (S2000, I game, etc) I tried various config's of the S2000 I even tried having the Spectrum handle the Level one (top award) and let the cham II+ do the second level progressive. The S2000 did not like that all. Link Progressive down. I have temporarily disconnected the Spectrum until I can get some idea on what to try next I have a Triple Five Times Pay Base chip Game SG000363 Base SB100168 VFD VFD00007 Version VS011GX1 Sound DSV00042 I am beginning to think that my game chip is not sendign the right data to the spectrum. this may be the problem... Isn't SG000363 is a "generic chip" for running S+ games on the s2000 platform... Its the same as SG000312 or SG000362 just an updated chip...?? Are your chips interchanged???... STEPPERBASE 100168 is a "true S2000" platform game (notice the leading 1).. it may work with the SG000363 but that is the wrong "ture" steppergame chip for S2000 platform.. steppergame000363 may support 2 level SS games if running stepperbase0001000 and a SS chip in U17.. then would work with 2 level progressive.. My s2000 is running sg00369 Sb100273 This topic was from a while back I see and if you can give me an update I may be able to help you........... If this isnt the problem.. I hooked up my spectrum a little over 1 1/2 years ago, and I tried to hook up my chamII+ to my vision machine.. My chamII+ is using STA (standalone) 2.07 and Im almost certain that even though it is a "link" progressive it still had to be set up in the progressive setup on the machine as a standalone..I dont remember too much because its been from a long time ago... Have you tried to set up both of them as standalone level 1 and standalone level 2.. My chamII+ would not communicate with my vision because I needed STA version 3.0 or something like that in which I tried to buy from Mikohn for 60.00 but they would not sell to me when they found out that I lived in ohio because they have no jurisdiction here.. Send me an update and Ill try to remember what I was doing.. Its been so long ago Ill have to think really hard.. lol Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: ChrisColumbus on March 23, 2009, 05:33:35 AM gotcha.... sorry wrote that after your response.. :)
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: Foster on March 23, 2009, 06:32:51 AM I went back to the SB001000 chip and SS chip config for now.
I only have 1 true S2000 type game, wrong glass but figured I would get it since it was a theme I like, and can get the proper top box at some point. Currently Triple Red White & Blue with SS7542 chip but using Red White & Blue Wild strips due to the strips being back lit capable. I did put a standard strip in one reel and it can be used, the back lit just shows up dimmer and bleeds into the white space on the strip. When I get the surprise project done, I may try the finding out why the S+ cham II+ had to be replaced, and see if I can try setting up the S2000 with both progressives again. I have gotten used to the Top Dollar topper on it though. Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: idesign on March 23, 2009, 09:48:10 AM I recently tried hooking up 2 spectrum meters in stand alone to a S2000. The game was Double Diamond which supports 2 levels of progressive. I set the machine up correctly but both meters indicated the 1st level progressive values. After fiddling with it for a few hours I gave up. I had both meters hooked up to the netlex distribution board on the back wall of the top box. I thought that maybe each meter had to have a separate ID address and that the dip switches on the controller board could be the solution. No help there as far as I can tell. Maybe there is an interface required if 2 spectrum meters are connected. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: ChrisColumbus on March 24, 2009, 11:50:13 PM Jeff, Foster said he got his chamII+ connected to his s2000 with STA 2.07... I was told by Mikohn that in order to connect it to the vision I needed a later version standalone software.. If I can verify and created a new harness for the CHAMII+ i will play around with it and the spectrum... I dont remember the pinout for the CHAMII+ or for the controller pin layout for the s2000.. do you remember??
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: idesign on March 25, 2009, 09:02:57 AM Here is a copy of the connections from the CHAMII+ manual. It's for a vision but will be the same for a S2000.
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: ChrisColumbus on March 25, 2009, 02:47:43 PM Thanks Jeff... Ill see what I can do..
Title: Re: Spectrum issues Post by: idesign on March 26, 2009, 10:05:00 AM Yes, let us know how you make out. I will try to test that out myself too.
