Title: E1096-35 problems
Post by: rjpohl on October 28, 2010, 08:38:40 PM
Will not accept coins, has power (checked all 3 voltages at power supply).  No reading on display.  I found that it had a damaged ram board from battery acid, found used board, replaced battery, reseated both ram chips as well as all connectors on the boards.  Where do I go from here?

thanks in advance
Bob

check that you are getting 5vdc at the mpu and IO board

i have 5 vdc between test clips on I/O board but wasn't sure where to check om MPU board.  If I press test and reset buttons some times the handle coil and the coil for the coin diverter (under coin mech) pulls in and out, over and over again.

thanks

I couldn't find where to test for the 5vdc on MPU board (as suggested by Barry) in the manual I have.  Can some send me a manual that has this info or tell me where to check?

thanks
Bob

you did have a problem with the original ram board - so I would assume your cpu has issues - there usually is enough activity to give some meter data.

Repairs update:

Sent the boards out for testing/repair to Foxsslots - CPU board was good - purchased ram board from Barry.
Installed boards - having trouble with switch below coin comparator - I can't seem to get the wire shaped to trip when nickles are dropped through - It will work for a coin or two and then I have to reposition.
I was also having trouble with the handle returning to top position - cleaned the plunger and lubed the reel mech - handle returns to top position and reels spin now but #3 won't stop.
I also have to move ram board or twist the cpu door at times to get the machine to set after a tilt.  I'll try to clean and re-seat eproms tonight.

any suggestions on how to proceed with any of the above problems is appreciated.
thanks
Bob

if reel 3 won't stop - does it lock in when you reset the machine?  if not - you have a lube issue - if it does lock in then you have a bad reel reader or connection to that reader.  Try swapping reel readers and see if the problem moves with the reader.
Not sure what you mean about accepting coins then  you have to "reposition" ?

If I bend and position the thin wire lever on the coin in switch the next coin or two will register.  After that the wire lever has to be repositioned so the coin will make contact and register.  The wire lever is very "wiggly" and moves around real easy.

then you need to replace the switch and or the trip wire.

With the help of Barry another old Bally lives to see another day and hopefully years.

There were several things that needed repair:

1. replaced ram board
2. rewired door switch
3. repaired coin in switch lever (got it set and put some silicone on it to hold it in place
4. cleaned and lubed reel assy
5. cleaned and lubed air cylinder on side of reel assemble
6. repaired broken wire on molex plug to reels

Karma+ to Barry
