Title: Finding a "short" in wiring for s+ sit down Post by: rjpohl on October 29, 2010, 03:52:55 PM I've been trying to help a guy out over the phone and have narrowed the problem down to a fuse that keeps blowing (it's the fuse for the buttons and display. I didn't know if any one else had had a similar problem and where the short was located. If you had a similar problem let me know the fix.
thanks Bob Title: Re: Finding a "short" in wiring for s+ sit down Post by: Jim on October 29, 2010, 04:24:49 PM What fuse is blowing? 120vac fuse F3, the 24vac fuse F2, or the 7vac fuse F1. buttons /display= buttons use 7vac for lamps, display uses +vb from board. to eliminate the board replace the blown fuse, remove the board, apply power. if the fuse doesn't blow then the problem is in the board, more likely +vb.

The uninsulated sharp holes that the wire runs through are netorious for stripping and shorting. I am not sure on a slant but I think there are two places that have these small round sharp holes vs one in a upright. Your biggest culprit on these is the terminals on the buttons coming off and people pushing it back onto wrong location. You can also removel all plugs apart from display and power and power up. Power down / add another section (Ie reel harness) and power up. Repeat until you have found the problem harness and examine the items connected to that harness. Ian Title: Re: Finding a "short" in wiring for s+ sit down Post by: Jim on November 01, 2010, 12:01:48 PM Bob, The fuse that is blowing is the 120 vac fuse. from the fuse it goes to the terminal blocks for distribution to the rest of the machine. I would check underneath the power supply cover on the bottom of the machine for a stray quarter that may have landed on the 120 vac contacts or something similar to that. do this with the power off to the machine and the machine unplugged from the power source. even though the machine is turned off you still have voltage going into the filter and to the service receptacle. If nothing is found here then the mostly likely suspects would be the 120vac fluorescent lamps and their associated circuity. e.g. all the black and white wires carry 120vac for the lamps.
