Title: S2000 Audio
Post by: swantzilla on December 02, 2011, 02:52:31 PM
I have a S2000 DD DLX. I believe that I have standard audio as the speaker by the bottom tray is not hooked up. I understand there is such a thing as enhanced audio. How do I add it to my box? I also understand it may require the multimedia board which my machine does not have. I apologize for the noobie-ness of this post. Thank you for reading.

Yes... but your game doesn't really take full advantage of the DSV00042 Simm sound card.
You will get a little slightly better than the regular generic sounds but that's about it really.

Basically, once you have the DSV00042 and and multimedia card installed, you go into the options menu
and change the settings to enable the "Enhanced" sounds.

If I were you - I'd look at some of the sound card combos Yoeddy tried.
He posted a bunch of videos as well which are pretty cool.
I wonder myself if he had found a cool combo that worked to enhance the sounds on your particular game?

Thanks for the reply. Do I need a different amp or wiring to get the bottom speaker hooked up?

You should have an amp up in the topbox?
There will be a harness leading from there on the back right side hole through the topbox and main cabinet down towards behind the DBV cashbox to the floor coming out towards the tray speaker.
There's a god awful 4-pin Molex plug that attached to a bracket where you plug your tray speaker connector into.
This Molex gets woefully harmed ( looks like they took a hammer to them really...LOL ) by floor attendants in a live casino
and some vendors have taken to removing the Molex connector plug over to the side off of the bracket.

Several vendors have this sound amp in stock and available if your machine was supplied with one.
Ask them for the speaker harness as well to complete your set up.
While you're at it - you may as well pick up a multimedia board
and at least a DSV00042 Simm card to get started.

For your question in the the earlier post, I've attached a diagram of the basic MPU multimedia sound setup below.
Another note...it is ESSENTIAL that the main power switch to your machine is turned "OFF" before removing or installing ANY electronic components.
We've had thousands of S2000 posts and threads here on NLG with people burning out MPU's, corrupting chips,
and wiping out I/O cards - because the power switch was left on.

Below as well, is a photo of an S2000 sound amp card that's usually up in the topbox on the right hand side or on the back wall.
I believe the tray speaker has a harness that leads from the 2-pin J5 header on the sound amp card?
I may be wrong on this as I am nowhere near an S2000 at the moment.
You're going to probably want to pick up three 47ohm resistors from Radio Shack too - no doubt you'll be asking us later how to get rid of the really loud volume you're going to get... :72-

I do have the amp in the top and the 2 side speakers but I cannot find the harness that goes to the bottom speaker. Yes it is a strange connector.

Well, that tray speaker Molex connector was designed so that all you had to do was install the tray to connect the speaker.
But casino floor attendants couldn't quite figure that out and banged the heck out the the trays onto the connector - usually smashing the crap out of them.

Place a WTB ad up in the "Classifieds" section of NLG for a speaker harness for the S2000 tray speaker and I'm sure someone will get in touch with you.

I will look at mine when I get home and see if it's possible for me to construct one for you if you'd like.
I don't know if I have the particular Molexes on hand - I'll have to check and see.
The tray speaker will add a LOT of bass to your machine.

I do not need the exact harness as I can construct something I just need to know where the speaker connects to. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it goes up to that 2-pin J5 header on
the right side of the amp photograph I posted up for ya.
I'll check mine when I get home and post it up after supper for ya -
unless someone else can verify before then.

There is a connector that goes from J5 that goes to a multi-pin connector on the bulkhead and thoes wires wind up at an open 2 pin molex just below the bulkhead. I can create a harness that goes from there to the lower speaker. I just bought a IGT S2000 MULTI MEDIA LITE BOARD off EBAY (I did not see one on this boards classifieds) and I will look for the SIMM as you suggested.

I was right about the J5 header on the sound amp card - it is for the tray speaker...
or as they call it...the "large enclosure speaker"... :72-

Here's a verified drawing of the amp from an IGT manual I found somewhere on the internet.

If you have the 3CM version of DDDlx, sky's the limit with compatible sound cards.  As Bunker said, I have shot a number of videos of different combinations.  Check them out at the following link:

Thanks for the help. I have a 2 coin version od DDDlx. Other than the obvious EEproms and top round glass, what else is needed to make it a 3 coin?

Probably...more coins...

just kidding...I wonder if you might need different strips?
The guys will chime in on this soon I'm sure...

Strips are the same for 2CM and 3CM.

You'll defintely need an SB100089 base chip.  That is the 3CM chip.  Might be a good idea to look at your Stepper GME 1&2 chips, and Version chip, although these might not need to be the same as mine.   Mine is running with SG000363 GME's and a VS011GX1 version chip.

Your current 2CM will only work with a DSV00042 sound SIMM.  3CM will work with many more sound SIMM's as you may have noticed on my YouTube page.

Thanks,
Jason

Excellent info Yoeddy!
I knew you were the go-to guy for this thread!!

Looks like I will only need the Stepper Base Chip as the rest are the same as yours. I will look at your ewe tube page again. Thanks. And stayouttadabunker, I will have to hit my kids up for another quarter. lol

I found this;
Please be advised the modification only requires to MPU P/N 75510502 Rev A and 75510504 Rev A. Raw boards 75510504 Rev B and 75510530 Rev C will not require this work. These changes have been incorporated into the artwork.

My MPU is the 75510504 Rev B so it looks like I may be ok.

Excellent! Now we know why some 504 boards STILL need the resistor mod.
They didn't change until rev. b

I read some of the mods that people are doing in that thread. Some people are putting resistors on the speaker side of the amp. I cannot help think that the amp would not like not being under the low impedance speaker load. From my audio experience it could cause distortion due to a mismatched load or falure in the output section due to high voltage spikes. Just my opinion...

Inserting resistors in line with the speaker increases impedance.

The final amp circuit (IC) is a car audio amp for use in a car stereo.

You can also place the resistors before the amp it accomplishes the same thing just different values might need to be used.

I agree but if the impedance is increased then the amp needs to swing a higher voltage (if it can) and if the impedance is too high, the amp will hit the voltage rails and clip.
I would rather limit the input to the amp and let the output drive the speakers at an impedance it is comfortable at. But if the levels are kept low and the amp is not driven to hard, then it is a moot point.
