Title: Just got my GK and bill validator takes cash but not tickets.
Post by: vpguy on March 20, 2013, 01:07:35 AM
I'm new, my first post, so please go easy on me till I get up to speed.  I've been lurking and reading a lot here, but being so new, there's a lot to learn.  And please correct me when I'm wrong.

I just got my Game King machine  It's the one with the games as tabs down the left side and then 9 games for each screen.  Mostly VP, but some Keno, BJ, Slots, i'm pretty sure it's on an 044 board (i960 and only 1 socketed ROM on a daugter board mounted on the mainboard.  My guy is telling me that it uses a key chip # 28 (which should arrive in the mail very soon).

I ran the machine a few hours today, everything works pretty well for a refurb, one weak "hold" switch in the #1 position, but I'll deal with that a bit later.

I noticed the bill accepter takes cash no problem, but it will not accept any tickets generated by the machine.  If you put the ticket in one way it spits it out right away, if you turn it around it holds it saying that it's validating or something similar and after 20-30 seconds spits it back out.  Ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Video Poker Guy!

 :238-

Congratulations on your new machine.  Those are awesome!  Unfortunately, none of the machines will take tickets out of box.  The reason is because the machines are setup to send the ticket information to a server.  The server stores the information and when you re-insert the ticket, the machine attempts to validate the ticket back to the server.  Since you have no server, there is no way for the machine to validate the ticket, so it spits it back out.  That's kind of like taking a ticket from one casino and trying to use it in another ... the backend server won't recognize it, so it gets rejected.

However, there's good news!  Just like the other slot enthusiasts on this site, we have figured out a way to allow tickets to work on a home slot machine.  You have to add a device that "acts" like a server in a way ... basically, it tells the ticket what to print and recognizes the ticket again when it's inserted.  This is referred to as Ticket In Ticket Out (or TITO).  Check out these links if you want to buy one ...

Can you believe, I actually had read about the TITO machines a few weeks ago while waiting for my machine to arrive.  I put it in my email to my dealer saying, I think it's spitting out because there's no back end server to validate it and I might need a TITO machine.  I've actually been learning!!!  Thanks so much for the quick response,  I'll check out the links and order one of these guys so I can load up a few tickets for easier play.  Or, is there an easier way to put credits on the machine?  I like to play at the dollar denomination (10 handed STP) so I blow through lots of dough.  Of course i'd like to use the machine as a piggy bank, but I have to be real.

So far I'm really happy with the machine.  I tried to get it in the bedroom, but it wouldn't pass the WAF, then the living room, nada, so for right now it's in the basement until I can get my man cave finished up.

Man, I would love to have a basement.  I would have so many more machines.  For now, I have the office / slot room.

As for putting more credits, the TITO systems the guys are selling here do allow you to press a button to add more credits.  You can also buy a free play device that acts like coins going in, but I wouldn't recommend that for multi-hand video poker (where you really want to spend lots of dough).  After getting my TITO, I started playing $25 coins ($125 a pull) and won $100,000.00.  It was pretty cool!  So for video poker, I'd recommend a TITO.  The cheapest is around $50 or you can install software on a PC and hook your slot to a PC.  That's free thanks to members on this site.

Good luck and happy home gambling!  Oh, and prepare ... the machines tend to multiple!   :72-

Thanks for even more good advice.  Can you provide a link to the free solution.  I've got lots of old laptops lying around, but will probably buy a tito board and install.  I'd like to take a look.

And oh, you don't have to tell me about multiplying machines.  I didn't even have the first one and I'm already thinking about the 2nd and 3rd.  Yes, this sure is an additive hobby.

Just browse the SAS forum and you'll find different .exe's that people offered.  You also need an RS-232/DB-9 cable re-wired to a 5-pin cable inside the machine (actually only uses 3 of the 5 wires).  All of that's explained in these different topics.

A follow-up to this post.  After looking things over, I decided to go with the Bettor Tito and contacted Jim about getting one.  Well, a few short days later and i had the thing at my doorstep and in all of 10 minutes with the docs Jim provided it was installed and running.  Couldn't be happier.  I also looked at the video's for the upgraded product coming out and while I'm not sure I'll need those features, it's sure nice to see something getting continual development.  Very happy with the purchase and has really changed the way I use the machine.
