Title: Double Diamond Questions: Manual(s), Volume, Credits, Bill Validator, and more!
Post by: AsUWish on March 01, 2010, 10:19:15 PM
I've just purchased an IGT Double Diamond Slot machine (for $375 - was that a good deal? -- not that I care... I like it!!!).  Anyway, I would like to increase the volume, change the "Credit Option" to Credit (or Player Initiated NonCredit), and check and set the date and time.  Can anyone provide me with a manual (or manuals) to assist me in this endeavor, or provide me with instructions to perform these tasks?  If you can't tell, I've just recently gotten into home slots.  I also just recently purchased a Bally GameMaker and it's relatively simple (comparatively) with it's nice TV screen and all, but with this nice jewel (or diamond I should say), all I have are a couple of numeric displays!  I'll try to upload some pictures of the machine in case that helps anyone.  Finally, is there any way I can add a bill validator to this Double Diamond machine (currently, it only takes coins [quarters to be precise])?  I would like to be able to use bills or coins.  Is this possible with the machine I have?  If so, how would I do it, where would it go, and what would I need to get?

One final note (not that I'm that worried about it, but I'm just very curious -- and I'm the type of person that if it's there... it should work!):  If the upload of the pictures worked, You'll see on the picture of the inside with the hopper, there's a mechanical counter (Coin In, Coin Out, and Coin Drop).  It does not work (it never increases the counts).  Is this something I could get to work or should I not even mess with it?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, and let me know if you need more info or pictures!!!

Thanks!!!

You've got an S-Slot, which is the predecessor to the S+. Do a search here, I believe that there's a service manual for the S/S+'s.

If I remember correctly, the only way to have a bill validator on these machines is to have it external. I also seem to remember that the sound is controlled by a potentiometer on the board - the main board is the silver rectangle there behind the hopper. Pain to get to. Also, for some reason I'm thinking that the S-Slot had a weak sound amp, and were prone to going out. I actually connected a set of powered computer speakers to the output of my machine (when the amp goes it does provide close to a line-level output), which works better than nothing. For power I just used the service outlet inside the machine.

I agree with Super Joker. I'm not even sure if you can add an external validator to an S.  :103-

The S-slot will not support games with extra features, such as nudge, respin, Haywire, or others, and it uses RS chips, instead of SS and SP chips, for games. There are not that many RS chips available.

Replacement counters for the S+ are not hard to find, but I don't know if the S uses the same type or not.

Overall, it looks like a nice, clean machine, and once you get the volume adjusted (or fixed) I'm sure that you will enjoy it for a long time. :71- However, if you decide to start experimenting with different game kits, progressive add-ons and other cosmetic upgrades, or are determined to have a dbv (validator), I would suggest buying an S+ or better still, an S2000, and leaving this machine as it is.

<ADD> The settings in the S test and setup menus are basically the same as those used in S-plus SP chips, although there will be fewer of them and some small differences. If I recall, there is no setup sub-menu (using the key) in the S.

The only manual that I have for the S is the Liberty Belle manual used for the both the S and S+.

Would another member please upload the S+ manual for AsUWish? My internet connection is much slower than it used to be and that file is 19mb. :60-

Thanks,

I respectfully disagree .. thats a early IGT S+ .

MODIFIED IF THAT IS THE MAIN BOARD ON LEFT SIDE OF DOOR ITS S+

IF ITS IN BACK WITH TWO PLUGS -ITS A >>S <<<

because the board is on the left side not rear is not making it a ((S)) SLOT

because it has no  DBV makes it not a S

THE DIMENSIONS OF MACHINE LOOK LIKE ??
JUST   A EARLY S+ INTERMEDIATE SLOT !!

I dont have the BIONIC  EYE  MICROMETER IN THIS MORNING  :72- :72- :72-
to detect the width and height and depth ..

I HAVE 10 IGT S+ MACHINES THAT LOOK IDENTICAL TO THIS .
ALL HAVE MAIN BOARD ON LEFT SIDE OF DOOR .. BELLY GLASS REMOVES FROM INSIDE OF DOOR
THE OUTSIDE FLIP DOWN WAS NOT INVENTED YET .. THEY ARE A SOLID MACHINE AND EASY TO WORK ON !!

THE BUTTON STYLE IS THE GIVEAWAY IN MOST CASES ..

AS FAR AS DBV ALL OF THE S AND EARLY NON IMBEDDED S+ USED A SIDE MOUNT DBV

Rocket, I'm confused.  :60-
Where do you see a main board on the left side?  :103-

I see the fuse box/power switch and transformer on the left side floor and clearly see the large bundles of wires of an S style harness coming off of the board in the back, in addition to the typical S style bracket at the top center of the aluminum tray.

thats why i modified the post .. no bionic eye === no coffee

with the main board on left side of cabinet its a S+

if the main board is in rear with two plugs going into it its a "S"

coffee opened up my eyes so i could see the main board in rear with two plugs

its still a good machine !! just older version .

By the way, I've have a few cups of coffee myself. I have been trying to hit something on my GameMaker all morning, but it is just sucking my money away today. :37-

I've lost at poker, slots, and keno.

The keno is toying with me. I've marked spots and played O & O and gotten nothing, only to see them hit as soon as I select different spots. It's been that way for the last two days. I just missed two 7 of 8 matches, more 3 of 3 and 4 of 4 matches than I can count, and even a 6 of 6.  :125- :25-

It's a good thing that it's only play money. :72- :72-

actually the early S+ IGT that have the main board on left side of door are great to work on !!

My opinion easier to keep clean in comercial use . reason is with the main board in rear it catches all the coins grindings
up underneath the mother board for some reason
and on top of transformer and UNDER THE TRANSFORMER !! ON THE LATER S++

the early ones S+ WITH THE SIDE DOOR MAIN BOARD DONT SEEM TO COLLECT THE GRINDINGS AS BAD & ARE A LIGHTER  WEIGHT MACHINE  !!
DRAW BACK -- BELLY GLASS COMES OUT FROM INSIDE !! .. SIDE MOUNT VALIDATOR

but some like to drop coins as myself .  others like to drop in bills press buttons ?

its not a 20 -line game -so dropping 20 coin is out of question .

the machine in question -not to drift off topic -I would like to know cabinet size ??

TO SEE IF IT TAKES S+ GLASS OR INTERMEDIATE GLASS ??

That machine is a "S" model!!   I have NEVER seen an external bill acceptor on one of these machines, not going to happen!!!    there are actually three plugs that go the main logic board, two on top and one on the right side toward the bottom. directly above this plug ,behind the aluminium cover on the logic board is the blue pot. to adjust the volume.

Jim at blueridge has many S models, he may have some meters that work.provided that is the problem.

If you want to see the board and volume pot., remove the coin tray, remove the hopper, turn off the power to the machine, remove the screw a the top of the aluminum tray and pivot the assembly  toward you and then unseat it from the two slots that hold it in place . you can lay it down in the area where the hopper was . revese the process to install.

once you see how to adjust the pot., reinstall board, turn on power, press the button on the coin optics board and play machine, as the game is playing you can reach in and adjust the volume level to its desired level. this may take a few times.

I could have sworn that there was an external BV that they mounted to the S-Slots. Thing was huge - not wide, but tall. I can't remember them very well, as they were only around for like a year or two. Just remember seeing them on machines in Reno. Next time I'm down there I'll stop by Brocklesby and see if they have or remember anything about 'em.

Is it safe to say that there's not an actual IGT S-Slot service manual around?

Thanks for all the quick responses.   :244-  I got the IGT manual that was posted.  Thanks.   :131-  I'll dive into pulling the hopper and all to get to the volume adjustment this weekend.  While I'm in there, I'll take a few more pic's and post them, and let you all know how it went.  I'll also take some actual measurements of the glass and the cabinet and post them as well.  From the outside, the bottom (lower) glass measures about 8 1/2" x 19 1/2".  The Upper glass is ~14" x 19 1/2" and the middle (pay line) glass is ~7 1/2" x 18+", but I'll get the actual inside measurements (and cabinet) this weekend and post them.

Thanks again for everything, and I'll keep you all posted (later this weekend) on my progress and decisions.  If indeed it can't take a bv (even an external one) I'm leaning toward what StatFreak said and leaving this one pretty much the way it is -- after all, I don't mind adding coins, it's just quicker with a bill.

I'll post more later... TBC!!!

I've purchased two of the side-mount bill validators, and installed them on my PE+ machines.  I presume that they'd also work on an S+ (there's a lot of similarity in S+ and PE+ parts), but I have no experience and cannot comment if they'd work on an S slot.  They were popular here in Minnesota on the PE+ slot machines (since Minnesota doesn't permit "reel" slots -- only video).

Keep in mind that the early S+ machines from the outside looked a lot like the machine that AsUWish has (side credit display, no bill validator) -- it's quite possible that the machines you saw with the side-mount validators were actually S+ machines.

I don't think a bill validator is supported on a S slot.

The proof is in the pudding - if you can set denomination (on S+ we use a SET CHIP) as the slot needs to know how many credits for a buck. I would look into this before you start cutting holes in the side of the machine.

Okay.  First of all, I want to thank everyone again for their replies. :3-  Jim, thanks for your post on adjusting the volume, it worked like a charm.   :244-  I've attached a picture of the main board in case anyone wants to look at it!  The main chip (with the "evidence" tape over it) has the following information on it:

SS105, MECH RS3408, 12/12/90 (?-?56), @IGT L91-00.

Does this tell anyone anything?  Payout percentage?   :99-

After reading the posts, I'm fairly certain now that this in an S model.  The model number is 51290, Stepper Slot.  Manufactured 02/87.  I don't think it will accept a dbv, and I can handle that.  I am curious about a few things however:  The Max Hopper Payouts are set (via a jumper) to "Programmable".  How do I program those limits?  I'm guessing this is done via the procedure listed in Section V of the IGT Service Manual.  Sound correct?   :103-

I've seen the following when I open the door and turn the jackpot reset key in the "Winner Paid", "Credits", and "Coins Played" LCD's respectively:

1 turn  :  3, 200, 0 pause 1
2 turns:  1  29, blank, 2
3 turns:  9999, 9999, 9
4 turns:  04, blank, 3
5 turns:  64, blank, 4

It then resets on the 6th turn.  What do these readouts mean?  Are there adjustments there I can make?   :103- Would really like to know!

Finally, here are some measurements for "Rocket"

Lower glass measurements:  9 5/8" x 20 3/8" (H x W)
Middle (Payout Line) glass measurements:  8 1/4" x 19 3/8" (H x W)
Upper glass measurements:  15" x 19 1/2" (H x W)

The cabinet opening dimensions (with coin return tray removed):  30" x 21" (H x W)

The  cabinet maximum Height x Width x Base Depth:  46" x 21" x 16".

Hope this helps!

 :140-

Somewhat.  Can you double check the RS number?  If it's 3438, then that's a 90.103% payback.  The only other RS chip I can find for a 3-coin Double Diamond is RS3436 (95.084%).  I don't see a RS3408, but it's possible I don't have a complete list.

I am also unable to find an RS version of the 3408. However, the SS version (which should match) is a two-coin Super Joker / Wild Cherry game paying 90.197%.
RS3438 would make more sense.

You're right knagl and StatFreak.   :89-  I re-checked and it is indeed an RS3438, not an RS3408.  Thanks for the info that it's a 90.103% payout.  :3-  I guess I could get the RS3436 chip (with the 95.084% payout).  Would I have to do anything other than change the chip?  :99-  Or would I need to do configuration settings or clears or anything like that?  Thanks again.  I'm loving getting into the slots (and this site)!!!

I think that you can just swap chips with no issues. :71- Rumor has it that that chip might be available. :79-

thanks guys finally found the right info , have adjusted the volume after pulling out the board , note mine has only the 2 plugs in the top??  maybe even earlier ??  only problem left now is the coin actuator playing up which sadly is proabably caused by me moving it out of adjustment!!   regards graham
