Title: IGT S+ bill validator
Post by: sopat on July 15, 2010, 10:48:15 AM
hello,
I have changed my IGT S+ game ( proms game & reel).
But i have a problem with the bill validator.
After game and reel eproms installed on the cpu board, game worked perfectly. Bill validator was off. Here, It was correct.
I have replaced Game eprom by Set Chip#15 and validate option 9-1, and the denomination on 0.50C (like before).
Again, game eprom placed, bill validator activated, but,now,  it do not recognises any bill !   :99-
The bill is eaten, but after 1 or 2 seconds, it is rejected. My bill acceptor is an IGT IBA4 EURO bills. (i live in France).
Could you help me for this problem ?
Thank you so much for your help.

The Game chip you installed does not use the same IDO protocol BV software as what you removed, easy to fix, if you have changed to a different game type than you will need to leave that Game chip in (say from RWB to Haywire), but if just changed from say a RWB to a 5 X Pay, use the old Game eprom, if you have a WBA Validator, just turn Dipswitch 1 on the BV t, these are generic instructions not knowing what you have, if you post what BV you have and what Game Chip number you removed and replaced with we could be more exact, you said IBA4 BV is it a WBA? say WBA-21 0r similar?

Well, the original game was a DOUBLE BLACK TIE. I change by RED WHITE BLUE DELUXE.
I tried to replace older game proms (DBL BLACK TIE), but the problem still the same.
My BV is effectively an IBA4 From IGT and accepts only EURO bills. ( see picture).
RWB eprom game is : SP0731 ; Dbl Black tie is : SP0856
Thanks for your help.

The chips that contain the game data are NOT the game chips. They are called reel chips.  The SP chip is the game chip. Your RWB Deluxe is a Type 5 game, and your Dbl Black Tie is a Type 0. Most Type 0 SP chips support types 1,4, & 5 as well. I don't have the data for the SP856, but if it was working for your Black Tie, it will almost certainly work for your RWB Dlx.

Put back your old SP856 chip (the game chip) with your Double Black Tie SS chip (the reel chip) and enable the dbv with the set chip. It should work.

I put again DBl BLK TIE game chip, and used chipset#15 also, to enable BV, unfortunately, problem still.  :60-
I thought use ClearRam.  What do you think about ?
Dangerous ?  :103-

If the original SP chip (that was working) didn't solve the problem (and you tried it with the IBA Dipswitch in the original position) then I'm going to have to defer back to Blueridge.

I would hold off on a full clear until you get some more advice from him or another member who knows more about the European DBV setup.

By the way, your SP chip is not a Double Black Tie game chip; it is an SP856. It can be used with any games that are of the types that it supports (probably 0, 1, 4, & 5).

I have just tried again : problem still the same with original game and reel eproms. And now, new,
i can put 9--0 or 9--1 with chip set, BV is not recognised !
There is not any DIP Switch on the BV.

Hi

If your BV is activating it means that the machine has been set up correctly and the machine is telling the BV to enable and take notes. Do you have documentation for your SP version ? Does that particular SP have a bill limit setting and if so is it higher than the denom of bills your are trying to insert ? Do you get any response with the BV test in test mode ?

Hi

Power down and check for bent pins on processor board. Also check wiring from BV to backplane board. Lastly go throuh all your input tests  and for check for Inputs that are high that should not be high. Because the I/O are all muliplexed this can cause issues.

Hi

Yes There is- Not 100% sure but i think you can only change it with a set chip. Dont know what Set Chipworks for your software (If you have a PSR it will tell you). For SP1213 which is also international version I use Set111. I have attached the info for this chip.

SP856

IGT utility program SET019 is required to modify the denomination, to enable/disable the bill acceptor, to modify the token value, to select the country code associated with the bill acceptor

Bill Acceptor   Acceptor model is jurisdiction-dependent, and uses bill validator software protocol version 2.4.

Credit Type
Selection  <0> [5]   The credit type cannot be changed if there are credits accumulated.  Options are Standard Euro credit {1}, Euro noncredit {2}, Nevada-style credit {3}, Nevada-style noncredit {4}, Lottery-style credit {5}, Semi-Euro credit {6}, Token credit {7}, or Semi-Euro credit II {8}.

Country Code Display [20]   This page is displayed only if the bill acceptor is enabled.  Displays the country code associated with the bill acceptor.  Can only be modified using the set-chip.  Options are:
Argentina {01}   Germany {14}   Morocco {26}
Australia {02}   U.K. {15}   Norway {27}
Austria {03}   Gibraltar {16}   Poland {28}
Belgium {04}   Greece {17}   Portugal {29}
Brazil {05}   Guernsey {18}   Romania {30}
Bulgaria {06}   Holland {38}   Russia {31}
Canada {07}   Hungary {19}   Spain {32}
Columbia {08}   Ireland {20}   So. Africa {33}
Cyprus {09}   Italy {21}   Sweden {34}
Czechoslovakia {10}   Jersey {22}   Switzerland {35}
Denmark {11}   Luxembourg {23}   Turkey {36}
Finland {12}   Malta {24}   U.S.A. {37}
France {13}   Mexico (25}

For now i have checked CPU board, plugs, pins, ... everything seem ok.

Well, CS#111 and CS#019 seem very similar.
I spoke with an Autrichian Casino Technician, and effectively, he uses #019 to setup its machines.
But now, big question : where i can buy a chipset#019 ? I have to try it, i think....

On the top of the home page are large squares which contain links to slot machine vendors.
Have you tried contacting any of them?
There's is also a "Classifieds" section of NLG located in
the Forum Index listings where you can place a want ad.
Vendors frequent those listings to try and help out people like you!  :89-

There is no more French Francs since 10 years (01-01-2000), and it is same for all European currencies.
Only the Euro is the legal currency for all European countries.
 Switzerland has kept the Swiss Francs: the Switzerland does not an European country, despite its location.
Well, my BV accepts only Euros ...

sopat,
These guys had the IBA4 Note Acceptor with similar problems as yours.
Their solution wasn't with the bill acceptor but rather
the problem lay with the MPU board in the machine?

I'm beginning to wonder if you might need to try another MPU board?
Do you have a spare board?
They are not expensive to purchase.

Bill Rejection Feature
Bills are rejected if an y of the following conditions occur:  the
game denomination is higher than the bill denomination;
the bill
inserted is not a multiple of the game denomination; the credit
value of the accepted bill plus any credits on the game exceeds the
bill acceptor credit limit that is set in the self test mode; or the

Here in the States - we set our game denominations to any
one of these .01 (penny),  .05 (cents), .25 (quarter )  .50 (half dollar) or a $1.00 (dollar piece)
What do casinos in France set them for?
I don't know your currency.
If you have some kind of bill equal to a dollar bill - set your game denom to a .25 (quarter?)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_coins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_coins)
Euros coins are .01, .02, .05, .10, .20, .50, 1, 2
The smallest note is a 5.

If you have it set to any denomination (and not setting a denomination is a common cause for bill rejection) I doubt that what you set it to is larger than a 5.00

IF this was me. I would probably start by identifing the type of hopper and finding which Euro Coin flows through the easiest.
IF this came from America the quarter hopper and dollar hopper were the most common.

The Euro .50 is probably the closest match between the two countries if you are comparing size and weight.
The US Quarter is 24.26 and the .50 Euro is 24.25

I opted to use Pachislo tokens so none of the neighbor kids loose their lunch money. These are roughly the size of a quarter as well.
They are slighltly larger than a quarter but are close enough that my rolling machine fits them nicely into a commerical quarter tube.
The counter/roller has an adjustment that lets me choose the size of coin to accept and then it rejects all others. If I dump in a hand full of quarters these are rejected when
its set to the token size.  I have also heard (many) reports that these tokens cause nasty jams to the coin elevators in the slant tops. Never any problems with the quarter hoppers.

Just for interest sake in Canada our smallest note is also a 5, with a Loonie and Toonie replacing $1 and $2 bills.

Subsequently with a Euro note set the denomination to 0.50 and when you put in a euro note you will get ten credits for the Euro 5 bill.

Hope this helps.

Start with the basics.

1. Is the acceptor light on ?? if NO then the bill will be rejected. You need to use a set chip.
2. Is the value of the coin choose higher than the bill you are using (not likely) however it is possible to set 10 25 50 100 token values .... make sure you are choosing 0.50 and not 50.
3. Is the game type and the acceptor type the same. My games are mostly all the same type but I have one or two that use a different value of validator and I have to change a dip switch.
   This is outlined in the PAR sheet...... What game theme do you have.....

Title: Re: IGT S+ bill validator

This is just a long shot.....

In the game menu there is an option to disable or enable the bill validator.
This is over and above the use of the set chip.

Perhaps disable the bill validator via the game chip. Play a game or two. Then go back in and re-enable.

My theory being perhaps some bit is stuck in some register and that by cycling off and on it might clear.
You have moved between two major revisions of the game chip which usually does mess up the cmos.
The Clear chip should have fixed this but you just never know.

I agree with Jay -- unless your bill validator is ID-023, you will NOT be able to use the SP1137.

Did anyone ever find a PSR for SP0856?  Since the bill validator was working with that SP chip, the PSR should tell us what the ID for the validator is.

sopat: Make sure to take pictures and good notes of the current position of the dip switches before you even consider changing any of them.  In addition, it would be prudent to wait until we can determine which ID the validator is (based on what is compatabile with the SP 856) and determine which SET chip is the correct one to use.

Hello Sopat

I cant find a IBA4 manual but as far as I recall its pretty similar to the IBA5. I have attached the dipswitches for that model. From what I can remember from servicing these years back the string sensor and the smart casette were both problematic items (If it has this there is a small hole at the back of the canister and a device that looks something like a watch battery on the inside but isnt - Basically the head communicates bill accepted data to this. If i remeber right if it did not see this device the BV would not work.
Its possible to connect the BV direct to a PC and test it that way (You will need a PC with a RS 232 serial port)

Hello Sopat

I cant find info on your software version. I have however found a spec sheet for a South American version. Generally the dipswitches are the same for all software revisions.

Dipswitch 2 has the following functions.

Bank 2 – 1   Protocol   Netplex (ID024)   Pulse (ID023)
Bank 2 - 2   N/A   N/A   N/A
Bank 2 – 3   Mag Analysis   Disabled   Enabled
Bank 2 – 4   String Sensor   Enabled   Disabled
Bank 2 – 5   Smart Cassette   Disabled   Enabled
Bank 2 – 6   Firmware Device   EPROM   Flash
Bank 2 – 7   Special Functions    See Table   See Table
Bank 2 - 8   Special Functions    See Table   See Table

Normal Operation   OFF   OFF
Cleaning Card   ON   OFF
Quick Calibrate   OFF   ON

Can you take a photo of the current dipswitch positions. I dont know if Euro notes have magnetic properties that the BV looks for but you can try disable Mag Anlysis. The string sensor I remember to be problematic and can be disabled as you are not concerned with fraud in home use. I would also Disable the smart casette.

Post by: TZtech on July 31, 2010, 01:36:17 PM
Hello Sopat

On the picture I cant really see what positions DS2 are in. DS1 you can see clearly and notes seem to be enabled

2-1 On - IDO23
2-2 N/A
2-3 Off - Mag Analysis Disabled
2-4 On = String Sensor Disabled
2-5 Off = Smart Casette Disabled
2-6 Off - EPROM
2-7 Off - Normal Operation
2-8 Off - Normal Operation

As you have stated the DS positions may not be 100% correct for your revision but its normally pretty generic. What SP are you currently using in the S+ ?.
Another thing that you can check is to measure if the power supply is supplying correct voltage to BV (This is a long shot normally if they fail they are completely dead)
Also check the bv connector plugs at the back of housing as well as on S+ processor. Maybe continuity tests to be 100% sure.

Here the exact answer from JCM :

At the time just before the Euro started, all country codes were already occupied and allocated in the IGT programs, even if they were not used, so there was no possibility to create a new number for Euros. This meant an existing number had to be used, and Holland was used only based on the fact that the IGT Office is based in Holland.
I worked for IGT Europe for 14 years up till last year...

As I always say, one who knows is better than ten who are looking for !
