Title: Manual & help with IGT S+ Double Diamond Slot
Post by: billyv on August 20, 2010, 11:59:29 AM
Hi I'm new to owning slot machines. I received one from the family that stopped working. I understand that the battery was changed & it hasn't worked since. The forms have been great at guiding & I have tried all that I have found. I ordered a clearing chip & programming chip. When the machine is turned on 61 comes up & the reset did nothing. I removed the cmos & grounded it. Next start the reset dinged, I closed the door hit the reset key & boyh top lights went out, the 61-1 was gone but no boot. Within a 15 sec time 61 came back up. Also the only key that lights is the spin key. Any & all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Bill

I think you're missing a step here.
When you see the [61], press the little white Test button
located on front or behind the power switch box.
Older machines have this Test button located on the MPU box on the left side of the machine.

Anyways, holding in for a couple seconds should get you to [61-1].
The machine does NOT always "ding".
That's when you close the door fully,  turn the Reset key,
and the game should go into the boot up mode.
Again, this doesn't always happen...sometimes it goes right into play mode!

What happens is: All the buttons and lights go out like it's dead, then the reels
do their "maiden spin" and the "Insert Coin" should come on -
depending on how good your bulbs are.

If this does not work, you're going to have to wait until you clear chip comes in.
If your machine has a DBV, you will also need the
proper SET chip to re-enable the bill acceptor.

Thanks for the fast reply. Sorry being new & typing with one finger the brain doesn't always work. After I replaced the cmos chip I turned the machine on & pressed the white button next to it. Thats when i heard the ding. After that is when I closed the door & used the reset key. I purchased a Ram clear & Bill Val set chip. I guess this where my questions start. Did I purchase the correct chips? Also after reading the various forms this machine acts differently as no other lights come on except the spin button. If I did order the correct chips what are the steps to use them. Thanks again Bill

Open the door, power off, remove the tray and hopper from the machine.
Take out the MPU board and place it on the bench with good lighting.
Remove the "Game Prom" SP chip from the U52 socket location.
Install the Ram Clear chip here. (Your Clear chip should be a V3.27)
Make sure the eprom notch is facing towards the etched print on the board that says "Game Prom".
Adjust the blue potentiometer volume to the middle position for sound.
With the power off, place the MPU back into the machine.
Leave the hopper and tray out for now.

Turn the power switch on.
If your speakers work, you should hear a "ding".
Look at the display on the front door.
There should be a [zero] in the Winner Paid window and a [zero] in the Coins Played window.
Open the door slightly, reach in and press the little white Test
button once - while keeping an eye on the front door's display panel.

Get used to seeing how this Clearing process works.
You'll hear another "ding"
The Winner Paid window will change to a [0-2], and the credits
will run a count-up until it displays [999].
It will stop as if nothing is happening except for the bottom half of your candle flashing like crazy.
This means the Clear process is finished.
If you want to see it again, press the little white Test button again.
It doesn't hurt to run the Clear process over again.
At least you'll get to see what you missed the first time...lol
Open the door, turn off the power, remove the MPU board and bring it back to the bench.

Now, remove the Clear chip from the socket, and re-install the SP Game chip with
the notch in the correct direction. (Which is facing away from
the blue volume adjustment potentiometer dial)
Go ahead and put the whole thing back into the machine, along with the hopper and coin tray.
Turn on the power switch.

See the [61] in the Winner Paid window?
Reach in and hold in the little white Test button while counting "one thousand one,
one thousand two" or hum a short little tune. :72- (sorry ...that's what I do anyways...lol)

Anyways, the Winner Paid should now show [61-1] after a "ding" sound.
Close the door fully, look at the candle.
The bottom one is going flashing like nuts but along with the top one- which is blinking slowly.
This means you're still messing around with the machine...lol
Nah...lol ...Actually it means your door was recently opened and the
bottom flashing means the machine is in repair mode.

Now for the moment of truth - turn the Reset key on the side of the machine.
If you get another error such as [65-3], turn the reset
key again and you should get a [65-1]
open the door and hold in the little white Test button for a couple of secs.
The display panel will go out like it died.
Cross your fingers now.
Wait a few seconds.
The [zero] comes on in the Coins Played window, and reels start their "maiden spin"!!!!!!
Close the door and the "Insert Coins" light should come on ready
and waiting for you to start playing your machine!!!!
Dance a little jig of happiness...lol
:136-

Thanks for the explanation, now comes the wait for the chips to arrive so I can give it a roll. I'm guessing that there is nothing else to try while I'm waiting?

There is actually.
Some guys (including me...lol) try a different SP Game Prom
( a way lower or way higher numbered SP eprom) and swap back to the original.
What this does sometimes is force the MPU to re-write over the two CMOS chips.

The main one located at socket location U51 on the MPU itself and the another different 8-pin chip
located down on the rectangular motherboard - way on the left-hand side.

Basically, they install the vastly different SP chip in the Game Prom socket,
and get it to go into boot up mode or error code mode.
Then replace it with the original SP and try to get past the [61] code.

Well I gave it a try. Nada, the machine did nothing not even a burp. I tried with both chips so unless I'm missing something I'll have to wait (I HATE WAITING)

Then you have no choice but to jump in your car and head out to a real casino... :72-

The chip arrived today & all went flawless. The machine did its dance & now accepts quarters. Now wait don't think the questions stop from this side yet. I will keep looking but how do I get the machine to accept bills & hold credits. I know I'm asking for the world but I can't help it. Stayout, I really have to say thanks for your help & advice.

Did you get the SET chip too?
If not, tell us what SP and SS chips you're using and
I'll recommend you a good SET chip.
You need the proper SET chip to re-enable the DBV.
I think I mentioned it in my 1st reply to ya!

The Ram Clear chip says (F760) The Set Chip say Set Denom 0.26 (B6B7)

It won't hurt to try the SET026 chip to see if it opens up the DBV options.
However, if your SP chip is an SP731, it may not work.
The SP731 needs a SET015 to open up those options.

I need to know what SP chip you have.
I don't have any reverse-reference materials that tells me what the SET026 chip is good for.
The PSR sheets of your SP (Game Prom) however,  do tell me what SET chips are needed.
I usually recommend a SET015 because it's compatible with very many SP chips.
But I really need to know what SP you're using to give you a definite and correct answer...

You need the SET015 chip to re-enable the bill acceptor.
When you get one from one of our vendors - I'll be happy to send you instructions on how to use it!

most of them do but it's way better to just place an ad in the "Classifieds" section of NLG.
The vendors will probably spot your ad and send you a PM.
Make sure you state exactly what you need and I'm pretty one of will be able to help ya!
They're a great group of guys and gals!  :89-

I just want to say thanks for this:

When you see the [61], press the little white Test button located on front or behind the power switch box.

We couldn't find that darn reset button and we are now up and running after months without my slot machine.  THANKS!!!!

I missed this thread the first time around, but for the record, a SET026 works just fine with an SP731 and other 731-era SP chips, and is a better choice than the SET015 (IMHO) because it can set a penny denomination on SP chips that support it (although the SP731 doesn't).

Bunker, I've even used the SET026 (and SET015, with its nickel lower limit) on the SP1271 and other newer chips. It won't give you access to the progressive setup options, but it will enable the DBV.

I guess billyv got his machine working, since he never posted back.
