Howdy.

I may be buying a new (to me) machine -- it's a PE+ (as best as I know, anyway) bartop drop-in unit.  Non bill-validator.

The only info I have besides the picture is "Model 3670C PE+DI" with a date of October 1992.  It's supposed to be working.

Obviously the monitor is burned, and it doesn't have a bill validator.  Is it still possible to add a validator to this unit (if I recall correctly, it would go on the left side of the monitor and replace most of the red glassed area -- and then I'd need to get a smaller piece of glass)?

I'm guessing it doesn't have a multi-game set in it, but I won't be sure until I go to check it out.

What do I look for in terms of boards to know what's in it?  I know the limitations of the PE platform, but I'm not personally familiar with the "superboard" or a multi-game board to know what I'd be looking at when I pulled the MPU board out.

Also, what would *you* say this is worth -- ie. what would you pay for it?  It's one of those "make an offer" things.  Any other tips?

Thanks in advance!   yes

You aren't going to add a BV to that, at least not in the door, or economically, the Super board would have 6 eprom sockets instead of 5, 4 for the Graphics (same on both) and a Game (program) and a Data next to each other, I don't have the part number or pic here for the boards, but the Battery is located next to the volume control, not next to the corner edge like a regular board, for a quarter game $200-300 if working, seen them for 100 before, just a slant top really without the wood

Even if the unit does not have a superboard you can pick these up relatively inexpensively ($<50).
The multigame is a daughter board to the Superboard. These are much more rare.

I was looking for a bar top about 16 months ago and got offered one for $325 with DBV. I already had a collection of boards so I was not concerned with the game theme.
I ended up moving and didn't need to add a machine to my collection so I passed.

In terms of machines. Round Tops are always the most desierable, followed by 16", then 9" (also called crop tops), Slants and then bar models.
Its a limited few that want the "drop ins" as the bar models are called.

The most common format for the PE+ is the 9" although I have seen a few round tops in the casinos I haven't seen any in a resale unit.

If I had to look for one thing in a model like this it would be a reliable hopper elevator.
When I got my S+'s and standard PE+  I choose to run these on tokens (as this made them compatibile with my Pashilos). The only conversion necessary was to change the coin
in the comparitor. When you get a slant or bar model the hopper elevator is very denomination specific and tokens would get frequently jammed in a quarter elevator.

It possible it would be good to run up a 100 or so credits and then hit the cashout button to see what happens.

Here is a pic, and to add to Jay's post about the tokens in the Slant Top/Escalator Hopper, there is .984 hoppers for the IGT these were found in Midwest Riverboats as they used tokens instead of quarters, still have some, nice thing is a quarter works in them usually as well

Jim, Jay, thanks for the info!

Of course I'd prefer an upright machine, but the price may be right on this one.  I'm checking the thing out on Friday.

Out of curiosity, why are bill validators difficult to find for these things?  I remember the local casino used to have bartop drop-in PE+s with embedded DBVs.

The BV is the same unit as others, the cabinet config is just different, the top is different, similar to trying to put a bv in a non imbedded S+ and cutting a hole in the door

Knagl,

I pretty much have the exact machine pictured, and can answer any question you may have if you do end up buying it.  I never ended up getting a bill validator either, but plan to sometime so I can integrate it into the MAME code.

There are a few more pictures of the normal vs. superboard and such on my website:

Excellent - glad to see you're still around, too!  I did wind up buying it, and I do plan to pick your brain about this thing and maybe look into tweaking mine a little bit.  Thanks for the offer -- I'll be in touch via e-mail soon.
