I believe I have a bally 5500
S940201928
S63B3WT-10
2/94
6304/GSM-500

board number: AS-3356-201 rev E
mains ME920000-6-0  02/09/05

Had 81 error code.  I replaced battery and then placed jumper on JW10, held test and Pcoin buttons and powered up.  Held buttons for approx 15 seconds but got no display readings.  Powered off back on (hold the 2 buttons in) and I got 83F.  I powered back off and then used clear chips.  Can't get any reading on display.

I did get all 9's in display once but don't remember how.

I've tried the board in another working machine and get the same results.

What am I doing wrong?????

Thanks
Bob

I just had a all 9's on a 5500 and it was a bent pin on one of the chips. If you get stuck in a 83F loop after a clear start over and make sure that the MPU board is pushed in all of the way.  I've also had to press really hard on the PSEUDO COIN and TEST buttons, when you switching the power ON, I think they get a little sticky sometimes.

Good luck.

With the older mains you should be able to do just a JW10

pretty sure I got ch-c first and the cl-c.  I've tried 2 boards with the same mains, I'm thinking I may have bad mains.

Ok,
I pulled U18 and bent 1 pin and I'm getting a 99999. Check all of your chips, pull and reinsert them.

I have pulled all eproms and checked for bent legs (didn't find any) then re-seated in board and got same results.  I have another board that has 1994 mains (ME920000-4-0) and U3 and4 chips that are marked SE92000-5-X.

do the mains (U18 and U20) have to have matching numbers to U3 and4 (920000)?
what is the purpose of the U3 and U4 chips??

is this a S5500 machine or a S5000 (how can I tell from mocel number?)

Thanks CVslots for the "bending the leg" test  Karma+

This was driving me crazy so I pulled the chips off the working machine I have and replaced with chips from problem machine and it cleared and worked perfectly in my machine.  Long story short it appears the board in the problem machine and the spare board I had were both bad.  Is there anyone out there that repairs these?

thanks for all the help

I agree. Replacing the board is probably cheaper and easier than having yours repaired.

When I replaced battery I had to let the machine stay on for half day to let the battery charge. And yes it was a new battery. Then I could clear ram.

The battery does not charge when the power is on; it is a non-rechargeable lithium battery. I'm not sure why you had to wait. Scratch Head 2
