What would happen it I tried to test a 3 reel game kit in a a 5 reel cabinet? would it work at all using just three reels or would it mess something up

It won't damage anything, but it won't work because the machine will be looking for the two missing reels unless you leave two of the origionals in there while testing. All reel plugs must have something plugged into them

You will need a 3reel shelf, 3 reel reel harness,probably different I/O cards.

If I recall correctly should work - You will however need to add jumpers to reels 4 and 5 connectors. I think there is a thread on this in here somewhere.

I don't have a S2000, but I seem to recall that thread.
