That's not a good way to start off when you power him up.
I'll try to help but its been awhile since I've got rid of my Pro5500. I agree with you- sounds like the power is not coming up. Let me go look up a few things first...
Ok, it may sound silly but you should check those circuit breakers inside the machine.
Here's what I was looking for from the manual. Again, it sounds silly but check them anyways:
"Power ON Malfunctions
If the Reel and Feature Fluorescent lamps do not
illuminate, check the following:
1. Turn power switch OFF and confirm the machine
is plugged into a powered, grounded outlet.
2. Using the Overall Wiring Diagram as a reference,
confirm the power supply is properly connected.
3. Check circuit breakers.
4. Confirm the power switch is connected and
functioning.
5. Check for any loose or frayed wires.
6. Observe the System Reset LED on the MPU
board. It should illuminate briefly on power on."
