I have a universal machine Midas touch that goes into tilt mode after a handle pull. also the payout meter acts like it is trying to move and makes a noise. recently changed the battery. Ive done a mpu reset and the game reset and doesn't correct problem. The code that comes up is a 41 which is a reel 1 malfunction...Any help would be appreciated  .....thanks  Mark

is this an ultra?  If ultra criss cross reel 2 and 3 cables and see if the trouble moves to 2.

Assuming this is an older Uni with the 8116 board.
I would first check your reels and make sure they are not dragging on their frames or have something like wires hanging them up.

Did the problem happen right after the battery change? Is the new battery a NiCad? It should be.

As jbshock said, you could swap reels 1 & 2 plugs and see if error is still 41. If it is still 41 I would suspect a voltage problem. If it changes to error 42 than the reel #1 motor is bad.

If after checking the above does not solve the problem I would check voltage output from power supply. Here is a link; http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=177.0

Ok..I switched the reel cables and had the same error code (41)...So I got into the power supply and found a domed top capacitor...the 220 uf 50v thats  across a bridge rectifier. I'll have to do so more troubleshooting to see if anything else is bad. To answer your earlier questions Uniman..I started having the problem first...then changed the battery since i ve never changed it before..It's a 3.6 nicad that I had interstate battery order for me..Also it's an older machine with a 8116 board...I'll keep u posted on what I find....Thanks for everyones help

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, sounds like the power supply. Check the output voltages and remove the noise filter if it's still in the power supply.

There is only one noise filter in the power supply.
