I'm trying to diagnose an E2000 slot that's giving me a
41 -2 error on reel card one.  I've swapped a know working
card to the same position and the issue still exists.

In order to eliminate the reel reader control PCB,
can I swap the controller board out with one that
has DIP switches ? This one does not have DIP's.

Are the controllers interchangeable ?

If I am not mistaken, the reader card that includes the dip switches only has two cables that attach to it, the other one has 3 cables that attach

Are your sure that the replacement card is good? I would split the card and then view the infrared transistors and see if the are illuminated. If not
then your card might be bad.

You have adjusted the reader about 1/16" from the reel? Maybe the connector to the reader has a bad connection? Maybe leave the readers where they are swap the wire connecctors and see if the problem follows the the connector?
