Just had the same fault and same solution why wouldn't IGT publish this fault code when it exists.

How's this for a tech bulletin.

On an S-Plus (not S2000), the cash can door switch can be removed and the wires soldered together, this eliminates the chance of this happening.  I do this with all my S-Plus machines and never have this problem.

Just had the same problem but on a non bill val machine. It turned out to be the main door optic, it was the plug on the receiver side of the opto that had a bad connection but that stoped the whole thing from working even the sender wasn't lighting up.
