Hi

Its really dependant on the BV. Some use EPROMS. Some use a special device to download SW and other use a PC (Usually with some kind of interface board)
Let us know what the model and make the BV is as manufacurers dont alway stick to only one model of BV in their machines.
Machine from the US use mostly JCM.

As noted it is dependent on the Bill Validator.

If this is a DBV 200, first the head is a DBV = = Dollar Bill Validator, If this was a Canadian Head it would be a CBA Candian Bill Acceptor, EBA is European.
The reason for this difference is that the money is different sizes, and the optical and magnetic sensors are in different places to match the security features for the country they are designed.

Next the Eprom - depending on the series is either a socketed chip or surface mounted - the surface mounted ones require a special cable so they can be reflashed.
The flash image or replacement chip is specific to the platform - Ie Bally 5500 or IGT S+ there is no such thing as a universal acceptor.

The DBV200 (and equivelent) has a series of dipswitches along the side which control which bills are valid. For instance you could turn off $10.00 bills if you wanted.
I remember right after a software upgrade was done to accept the new $100 colored bills some one figured out that if you were to hand draw an extra 0 on a $10.00 bll and shade it in with a Pencil you could fool the acceptor into thinking that a $10 was a $100 bill. Subsequently many casinos turned off $100 acceptance until they could get the replacement software.

Finally a Set Chip is used on the IGT S+ (not sure about all the platforms) to turn on the bill acceptor.

IGT has stopped support for the S+ platform and have asked JCM to not release any updates that support the new colored $5.00s on any of their heads.
