Hi folks. I'm new. Just got S5500 Fireball. First problem: code 81, then 83F, then 54. Solved these with the help of members posts. Now the codes I can't clear are 31: Hopper coin out jam, and 20: Coin in jam. If I can clear 31, then it comes up a 20 and vise versa. Coin comparitor is CC-16-D (quarters) with a red led that I've never seen lit even with cherry switch pulled. Amber light on optics board is lit. I've adjusted sensitivity all over the place-no difference. Looked for IR light w/digital camera-couldn't see any light. disassembled comparitor slider and didn't see any LED's, only copper discs (2) inside. Are these proximity sensors instead of IR sensors ?  Turning the coin switch on or off on the MPU does'nt make any difference whether or not this code comes up.

Code 31: Hopper coin out jam-Hopper is XS1200. I've got about $15 in quarters in hopper. I can use the momentary switches to move pinwheel for & rev and run the mixer motor, but when trying to run forward, pinwheel will not stop unless I push cherry switch in.

Any help from you experts would be greatly appreciated !

I've done Saferam clear. By the way, I've eliminated the 31 hopper error by jumpering the hopper plug. As far as the 21 error, yesterday I actually got the coin op to work for awhile and saw the red LED was on. I even fed a few $20s into the DBV and was able to play the machine for a bit. Then the 20 error came back to haunt me.

what was the denomination on machine and what is it now you will get these codes if the coin is missing the optic as if it was a dollar machine and the coin guide that takes the coin past the optic is to big this will tell you that the compairitor has seen the coin but the optics hasent you will have to make adjustments in the guide to take the coin past the optics    Paul

Hi Paul. I have a quarter machine. When the comparitor works, it will accept 2 coins, then the red LED goes out and it is disabled until the credits are played. What I've noticed is that if I can reset the 20 error, and the red LED comes on, it will gradually fade out and the 20 error returns. It can take anywhere between 1 second to 1 minute. Almost like losing power, but the optics board LED remains lit (yellow). Can you tell me where the optics are located and what adjustment I have to make in the guide ?

Does your compairitor have INH on it also on the compairitor is an adjustment it will be a hole, in side that hole is a adjusment screw turn that counter clockwise that is the sensor also try another compairitor it sounds like a compairitor problem

Hey Paul, I tried to post a picture of the comparitor. Hope it works.

In this picture there is no sample coin installed in the comparitor! You must have a two coin machine, the compariator light will go out when max.number of coins are accepted for play. Coin optics are located on the board where you are seeing the yellow LED the only adjustment I know of would be the shim to reduce the coin path. If the optics were used for a large coin machine, and now you want to use smaller coins the path must be reduced to force the smaller coin to pass in front of the optics. Take it apart and look at it you will see how it works, and while it's apart clean the optics.

Sorry Paul you beat me to it!!!!

Code 20 = Coin In Jam (The optics on the Coin Optic Decoder board have been blocked for too long).

Since you already cleaned the optics and reflector, I suggest you try the machine without the comparitor and if the code appears, then try another optic board.  This should correct the problem.

Thanks,
Wayne

I finally got the comparitor to work by disassembling the optics board and cleaning the emitters and receivers. Thanks so much for everyone's help.
It sure would be nice to get the hopper running.
I keep getting 31-coin out jam. Is there a sensitivity adjustment for the coin out sensor ? I've removed the sensor and cleaned it, but still get 31 error.

Any thoughts ?   Thanks, Bret
